dissle · 27/05/2007 18:35

And another.....
see, its not that bad is it?

belgo · 27/05/2007 18:37

have you of your toddlers had problems that you associate with the bottle of milk at night?

Mine didn't. Only benefits.

dissle · 27/05/2007 18:39

The only thing is now that i want to try to get him dry at night, his bottle routine is so entrenched that i am struggling to put it back so that he isnt going to bed with a full bottle of full fat milk in his tummy.

I think that i have made that very difficult to overcome.

My DS was 12 months and DD was 11 months when they gave up the bottle (DD gave up BF and bottle in the same week)

They were both ready to give it up though. I'm currently trying to wean them off their dummys

Trinityrhino · 27/05/2007 18:41

actually come to think of it dd1 was still drinking milk from a bottle at bedtime AND then drinking water out of a bottle ALL night too till she was 4!!!!!!!!

Seona1973 · 27/05/2007 20:20

I stopped dd's at around 13/14 months. She still had milk at bedtime but it was from a lidded beaker rather than a bottle.

lissie · 28/05/2007 09:47

ive tried giving him milk from a beaker but he doesnt like it, glad im not alone tho

I wonder if the possible speech link is because long term use of bottles and dummies often goes hand in hand. I know my friend's DS was very late speaking because he had a dummy shoved in his gob all day long.

DS will hopefully be off his bottle by the time he's a year. He had a little of his milk this morning from his beaker - so far so good. And Cod's right, after a year milk is so much less important anyway that if he won't take it from anything else you needn't worry too much. He can get plenty of milk in sauces, yoghurt and cheese.

at bottles with juice in FGS awful, my dd went from bottles to a soft spout (from asda i think) at 1 yo, then onto a cup with no lid not long after.

Twinklemegan · 28/05/2007 23:55

Yes, do they eventually stop waving their cups around at some point? It would be pure madness to attempt to give DS a cup without a lid at the moment (even though he's perfectly capable of drinking from one).

Dd (2.6) still has bottle (with slightly chewed teat) milk in evening, then goes to bed with nicely brushed teeth. She never liked a dummy and am not worried about speech as she is a big chatterbox. Never understood why people are so against this.
