My baby is sleepy and doesn’t drink much during the day.

My baby seems he likes to sleep during day and doesn’t take enough milk. He is 3 months old and he drinks 50ml,70ml in one feed. He is fed every 2-3 hrs.
I try to feed him while he is sleeping. He then takes milk. If he is awake, he refuses to drink at all.
I am worried. His urine all seems nice and clear.
Any advises ?

Is he gaining weight? Does he have periods of alertness? What does he do when he feeds awake? Current advice is to feed on demand and I'm not sure how a sleeping baby can demand!

When he is awake he takes his pacifier. As soon as I try to feed him, (he is bottle fed). As soon as he gets a drop of milk he cries.
When I give him his pacifier he sucks and he is fine.
He does smile and laugh and play. Also he makes cooking noises etc.

He has gained weight but it’s still so low. A three month old baby’s generally supposed to be 6kg and my baby is 4.34kg. Which I am so concerned and upset about.

Don't compare his weight to what babies his age are 'supposed' to be because it varies greatly depending on birth weight. As long as he is gaining weight gradually along his percentile then he is fine.

Are you in the UK? (I ask because you used the word pacifier and metric weights so I assume not?)

Yes we live in UK!

What does your health visitor think? Do you have a surestart centre nearby? They should have a HV clinic you can take him to and chat to a HV about your concerns

My daughter was difficult to feed awake at that age as she has reflux and it caused her pain (and sometimes I think it wasn’t hurting but she had become scared of the bottle as it often causes pain). So I would often try and feed her while asleep (until the reflux was under control).

Have you excluded reflux?

My son occasionally has reflux issues. He is colicky too. But his colic became better now though it’s still there.

I spoke to HV. She said if he isn’t alert then I would need to check him out. I cannot say he is not alert and sleeps all the time.
He seems like he doesn’t need any milk for up to 4 hours which I think is a bit too much especially in this weather.
And it worries me so much.

A smaller than average baby is nothing to worry about, an average is just that. Is he following his centile? What cues do you see to know he needs a feed? Every four hours is absolutely not unheard of among babies this age. You often hear (especially on here!)of babies needing feeding even hour or two, I had one, but some really don't. My friends baby was feeding four hourly at 8 weeks, but gaining weight along her (small) centile, with periods of awake alertness, looking around, plenty of wet nappies etc. My dd was bf and fed every 2 hours or so for 4-5 months and then suddenly switched to 3-4 hours and would cry if I tried to offer milk when she wanted a cuddle and her dummy. If you're worried about reflux could you try go again?

Oh and my dd was 4 hrly from 6-7 weeks x
