Milk allergy in bf baby?

Baby is 5 weeks old and EBF. He has a bad rash on his face, small red raised spots, is VERY gassy, colicky and has had slightly green tinge to his stools over past 24 hours.

Planning to ring GP or HV in the morning but was wondering what others experiences of milk allergy were? I had it as a kid apparently

No advice but watching with interest as my DD is 2 weeks old and has the same symptoms. I'm beginning to suspect the same.

Does you DS poo regularly? DD is pooing every nappy and it's very liquidy. Her bum is also spotty and sore.

Look on FB for the CMPA support group. You'll get a lot of support and advice from other parents.

It definitely runs in families, both me and my DSister have it. Have a read of this on Kellymom as it explains the allergy really well and this on Allergy UK as it suggests what to say to the GP.

You should expect the GP to refer LO to a Paediatric Dietician when you are closer to Weaning. If you are cutting out dairy, just make sure you get 1,000 mcg of calcium a day.

There is this section on MN which is good and there’s also an allergy section on MN which you mind find useful, especially if you are after suggestions of things to eat. Allergy UK have a helpline too.

I came on to recommend the FB groups for CMPA - very knowledgeable. There is a sub-group for breastfeeding. If you are willing and able to cut out dairy from your own diet, you should see improvements in your little one in days, though it takes around 3 weeks to get it out it of your system. Read labels carefully as milk is hidden in unexpected places. The BF sub-group are great at sharing dairy free finds.

My DDs symptoms were similar to what you have described and improved once I went dairy free. I managed to feed her until 10 months old but at 6 months received a hypoallergenic formula as my supply was dropping so I mix fed for a few months then switched over to just formula now.

Cut out dairy and see how it goes. You have nothing to lose. I saw a difference in my baby after 3 days. HV kept fobbing it off as colic. I feel bad for letting my baby suffer with CMPA longer than was needed. It is hard but you soon get used to it.

My dd is two and still milk free. The gp will tell you to cut all dairy out of your diet and wait a few weeks to see if it helps. You might as well start that while you're waiting for an appointment. I agree with others, the cmpa Facebook group is fantastic.
