Any way to boost evening supply?

Just that really. Are boobs clever enough to respond to extra evening stimulation or would it be boosting supply completely? Baby is 7 weeks. And very big.

Am feeding very much on demand and making an effort to give ds really good access to the breast all day (tends to feed every 1.5-2 hours but will take about 45 mins doing both sides) however he really clusters from about 5 pm and by 8 there's very little and he's a bit frustrated. And wants more. Will it naturally boost up if I keep going?

I had oversupply with my first so a bit unused to this!

If pumping is an idea when is the best time?

Or pump midday and give as a top up in the eve? He tends to sleep 3/4 hours if fully tanked the first part of the night.

You can pump if you want to but I doubt it’s a supply issue. At this age he’s probably just boosting your supply generally. They also love to be close to you. If you feel he’s getting a bit overtired, have you got someone who could take him out for a walk in the evening so that you can get a little break?

Kellymom have some good information on cluster feeding here

Congratulations on your LO too Thanks

Thank you! I've read just about everything on KM tbh, and I think tonight yes that was part of it. (Being close!)

I may stick him in the sling another time, though Dh has just so popped him in a swinging chair and he's sparko so I'm in the bath. now worrying that the Epsom salts will lower supply!

I keep questioning if my boobs can keep up with him as he's the same weight at 7 weeks that my ds was at 4mo...

I also worry as I had a very engorged painful breast last week that I spent the day trying to drain (effectively offering a few times in a row) and the next day my breasts felt much less full generally and have stayed the same. However, there's clearly enough milk in the day. One breast this time seem to have a lower storage capacity.

I think the bit on KM where they say supply pretty much stays the same after 6 weeks worried me. But it must increase for growth spurts?

I think you may have a case of overthinking things Smile

If you’ve read KM, you’ll know that a BF baby between 6 weeks and 6 months takes roughly 25floz in 24 hours. Unlike FF babies who have to drink increasing volumes of milk to get their nutrients, BF babies just drink that as your BM alters to meet their needs.

Your body has done a fabulous job of sustaining him until now, I really, really don’t think you have an issue but if you want some reassurance why not give one of the Bfing Helplines a call? Smile

I know the feeling, I'm dry in the evenings and engorged after midnight so am scared to try and boost supply.
