How much milk should an 11 month old drink?

My DD has been breastfed, pretty much on demand until about about 6 weeks ago, I had tried to combine feed, and now all my milk seems to have dried up and DD loves the bottle . She likes to suckle still but does not appear to get much, if any milk from my boobs, rather, sees it as a comfort I think (mainly at night, during the day she could not care less any more )

How much formula should she be drinking per day?
She eats the following:
7:00am - 5-7oz milk
8:30am - small (often half) pot brekky food (porridge or other) scrambled egg, quarter banana, or something similar
10:30am - 5-7oz milk
12:30pm - big pot of food (usually home cooked) half to one pot of pudding, some vegetables to eat herself/other finger food
2:30pm 5-7oz milk
4:30pm - small pot food
6:30pm - small pot pudding
7:00pm - 7:30pm - 5-7oz milk, BF for about 10 mins, gets some milk, not much.

Am I feeding her too much milk? Should she be eating less milk and more food? When she was BF she ate more solids, not significantly but enough that I notice.

Or should she be drinking more milk? She weighs 16lb.

should say that she rarely drinks all 7oz every time, ie if she does in the morning, she is likely to drink 5oz at mid morning, etc,
Total milk in day around 20-24oz, sometimes a little less

as much as she feels like?

Heathcliffscathy · 25/05/2007 16:17

sorry...what i mean is, don't worry too much? if you want to up her solids intake, then perhaps bring down milk intake in the morning (giving her the chance to make up the calories through the day? say the 10.30 feed smaller?

LittleMissPositive · 25/05/2007 16:18

Sophable - I sort of thought that, and thats what I do. I am just a little concerned that I might be given too much formula and not enough solids, or the other way round. Formula is new to me, I had not intended to stop BF altogether, she sort of decided that!

Sophable - She uses a significant amount of calories, she is a busy baby, constantly moving, moving, moving, and her weight is not increasing by loads, she is a small baby, and I guess I am worried that I might starve her! But also, as I am paranoid about her not getting enough food, I dont want to overfeed her either. Is that possible?

imo you can't overfeed a baby.

FindingMyFamily · 25/05/2007 18:12

sophable - thanks! I hope not as she is eating like a horse right now!

She has had 3 meals and two snacks at nursery today, plus 21oz of milk so far. I said she rarely eats all of every bottle, well so far today she has. When she got home, still hungry so big pot of fish pie and not had her evening milk yet!
I shall stop worrying so much. Or at least pretend not to!

sorry did not change my name!

I think the HV would say that about 16-18oz in a day is right for 11/12 months but ds has had 21 oz a day for ages. I think if she is eating well and a range of solid foods I wouldn't worry about cutting the milk. Have just cut down ds' afternoon bottle to 4oz though as he was throwing his tea on the floor (seems to have worked as he eaten it all the last 3 days)

LittleMissPositive · 25/05/2007 21:49

OMG - she has had 28 oz! She made me a liar today, she drank every oz of every bottle, and all her food. She has had a busy week, and has stepped up a good few gears in her activeness, if that was ever possible.
I guess she is having a growth spurt? .

So, I should continue offering her food and milk as I am, and if she goes off her food, maybe look at cutting the milk before that meal a little and see if it makes a difference?

KZ - its Pavlov! You know that tho right?!

DD has gone from drinking no bottle to drinking loads. She is still tiny tho!

Most people I have spoken to drink much less than she is right now, which is why I wanted to check it out! I am so used to BF, she just took what she wanted and I knew she was getting what she needed.

DD drinks water too in the day, and fruit. She loves fruit!

But, all this food, it has to go somewhere, and her nappies have been foul of late tmi I know!

KZ - she eats less solid that your LO tho, I would say she has around 3oz max of porridge, but eats one whole scrambled egg and some banana as well. She eats around 40z food for dinner, plus 3oz yoghurt. and the same for tea/supper.

I might see you on July babies....

KZ - yes, she does not eat red meat yet, well the odd bit of dadas, but thats it, but she has chicken occasionally, fish lots, she loves fish, eggs, cheese, lentils, pasta So I would say yes she gets protein.

Her fave dinner of my own fare hands is, fish with leek and cheese sauce. I make this (minus the cheese) for our own fish pie, and I always make too much, split before seasoning (although I put mustard and parsley in) and freeze a pile of it. I then either do sweet potato top or some pasta with it. Fish is good actually as I make it chunky and she can eat bits herself, which she likes.

Or, tomato, vegetable and lentil sauce with pasta. Freeze it and when its defrosted and a little gloupy I miz cheese/milk to loosen again.

Thanks for you support hun brown pasta? Is that higher in carbs?

he he sounds flash, all my cooking, but really, I cook about 8-10 pots of it at a time for her, so she has about 2 weeks food at a time in the freezer! and then I dont spend each day cooking fresh. I do cook fresh from time to time, but mainly give her fresh veggies and fruit, and some of what we eat. and I still do blended vegetables for when she is feeling lazy with her eating! She has her own freezer drawer!

When daddy cooks, he cooks up a jar!
