boo hoo hoo.

Stupid flimsy Avent via system!!!!

Does anyone else find that it unscrews itself as you pump and is really easy to knock the container off because of the small thread!!!

Oh no!!

That is bloody devastating.
Once lost one full to the brim.

I did weep.

Tommy · 24/05/2007 20:55

Know what you mean trixy - not very sturdy are they?

Whe I was feeding DS2, our freezer broke and I had to throw away about 10 bags of defrosted milk....

moondog · 24/05/2007 20:58

OMG!!
Why didn't you ask a neighbour to have them?

beansprout · 24/05/2007 21:01

Arrghhhh!!

I had about 20 bags frozen and I couldn't use any of it as it was off once I defrosted it! gah!!

trixymalixy · 24/05/2007 21:02

Tommy, I would have been in tears at that! I thought 3oz was bad enough!!

I had to throw away my entire supply of ebm, built up over 3 months, when we discovered that dd was milk intolerant, as all of my milk had dairy in it .

She would never take a bottle anyway, so it turned out not to matter, but I might have persevered with trying if I had supplies to hand.

Sympathies.

MaPickle · 24/05/2007 21:03

What an arse for you, I feel your spilt EBM pain!

trixymalixy · 24/05/2007 21:03

How did that happen beansprout?

OP posts:
Tommy · 24/05/2007 21:08

I think I nearly was trixy!

I also once droppped 6 eggs that I had collected from my friend's hens that we were hensitting while they were away and I told her afterwards that it felt like when I had thrown the BM away - such a waste!!

trixymalixy · 24/05/2007 21:27

Right, shall stop feeling sorry for myself as 3oz isn't as bad a loss as some of you have had!!

OP posts:
mawbroon · 24/05/2007 21:40

I dropped 6oz one time at 4am after dragging myself out of bed on a freezing winters night to pump as I was so uncomfortable. Same Avent system, it just seemed to unscrew itself and fall off! I was well annoyed when I was cleaning it up whilst the rest of the household was blissfully unaware, but I was also glad that my decision to get laminate flooring before the baby was born had paid off.

Sympathies trixy

beansprout · 24/05/2007 21:44

Something to do with an enzyme in my milk which meant it started to break down much quicker than normal, so the whole project was doomed from the start!!

Yeah, why do they make breast pumps so that they don't really stand up on their own?!?!?

bet a man designed them and doesn't realise how precious EBM is!

I was miles more upset at the lost EBM than the fact it had spilled all over the sofa and carpet!

OP posts:
trixymalixy · 24/05/2007 22:07

Beansprout, have never heard of that!!

hope that doesn't happen to mine...

TBH, I never liked the VIA system, only used it one day in work when I stayed longer than usual and had to go out for more EBM containers and they didn't have the regular little bottles. I e-mailed Avent to complain about them.

mears · 24/05/2007 23:01

This is one of the reasons hand expressing can be so good. You don't use a pump and you fire it straight into the bottle. I found it so much easier and faster

Now, pull yourself together, it's no use crying over spilt....

Sorry, bad joke.

Have been there and I feel your pain!

macneil · 28/05/2007 22:14

Oh, I too feel your pain. Expressing was always like getting blood out of a stone for me, I used to watch it coming out in very slow drops and express for an hour at a time, both breasts together. And then I'd go and drop it on the floor because I was exhausted, OR while I was feeding her, not screw the lid on properly so it just poured out onto her bib and clothes and then I'd realise she was drenched but still wanted lots more food and the bottle was empty. I used to empty the bottle into her feed by leaving it upside down so every single drop went in, and make her drink 'to the squeak' so she'd get every single drop. And every time I lost some I felt physically in pain for DAYS. It now almost seems funny... but not yet, not quite.
