Agh! Can't wean my baby off his bottle! Help!

My baby is 17 months old. He is a happy baby, a non-fussy water and a fantastic sleeper and sleeps for 13-15 hours a night. But he loves his bedtime bottle! I have tried giving him milk in different cups and tried to change his bedtime routine but he screams and screams and the only thing that stops it is giving his his bottle. He'll drink milk or water out of other types of cups during the day, but at night he wants his bottle.

Is anyone else's 17 month old still drinking from a bottle at night? And how bad is it for them? His childminder says it stops them from developing normally, but I just don't see how a bedtime bottle would affect him that badly. I'm more worried that it's a comfort thing.

I tried with dd at 18 months, then a few months later. She's now 2.5 and has finally stopped using bottles. Pure fluke really. She needed a new cup, so let her choose a new one. Thought I'd take the opportunity and told her that when we got home we were throwing her bottles out because she wasn't a baby any more.

She was fine, helped me put them in the big bin outside and hasn't asked for one since. I think just that extra few months helped her understand maybe? Don't stress, he's still small and if he's only using them at bedtime, it's not too bad.

Thanks @loveulotslikejellytots. I keep getting comments making out it's really bad that he still drinks from his bottle.

My son is nearly 14 months and has a bottle 3x a day - 1 for each sleep... no way I'm stopping yet. He can use a cup, walk and is starting to talk. Uses cutlery albeit haphazardly and sleeps PERFECTLY! Why would you mess with it.

Ds weaned himself off the other bottles he had so I'm hoping he will drop the bottles organically. If not I'll tackle it when his language is more mature and we can talk about it.

So long as you brush their teeth after the bottle and before bed it’s not a disaster. Personally I just went cold turkey - it took 3 nights of whinging then absolutely fine.
