14w old constantly pulling off breast - argh!!!!

DTs are 14w, 9w corrected. Combi fed with 2 bottles a day, otherwise ebf. DT1 feeds " normally" as in he latches, suckles rhythmically with some pauses then falls off when asleep or complete.

DT2 used to do all that.

But in the last week she has started doing this hellishly annoying thing where she suckles for 30-60 seconds. Then pulls off and looks at me. Then re-latches, on own or with encouragement. Rinse n repeat throughout feed. Sometimes esp during day she will get frustrated and cry.

Why? Does she hate bfing? Me? Argh!

Teething? My DS always did that because it hurts them a bit for a few days. He also did it when he had a blocked nose.

Go back to your basics of positioning and attachment, like you did when she was first born . It sounds like she’s not getting a fast enough flow. A deep latch should help

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 02/06/2018 17:38

She is doing it again. Really at wits' end. There is milk all over her face and in mouth so it is not like there's nothing there. Is this the end of the line for bfing? She just will not latch without drama.

10 week old here started doing similar during the last few days. I stopped, sat him up and discovered he had a big burp brewing. Since then as soon as he does the frantic on off thing I wind him rather than waiting til I switch sides

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 02/06/2018 18:37

Thanks. Have tried winding and it doesn't seem to do much altjough her behaviour is like that of a baby with wind.

I am just worried she is not getting enough as she seems to pull off before she has finished feeding Confused

I doubt it's the end of breastfeeding for you

As previous poster said try looking at positioning, maybe the side lying position?
Also try catching her when she's relaxed or just woken, anytime my DD (20 weeks) got fussy I found that was the easiest time to get her to feed well

It could just be a phase, is she distracted?
Noticing the world too much?

Mine did similar but looking around, so I got one of those covers which are essentially l just a triangle of fabric knotted at your neck. Reduced the nosiness a great deal, and used it at home and out to get her to stay put.

You could just use a big scarf, and put her bum in it, knot behind your neck. The slight cocooning worked for dd, but obvs no help if its teething or wind.

I remember that well, so frustrating that you want to scream/cry - it is just a phase and we are still going at 14m so don't assume it's the end if you want to keep going! Maybe try rugby ball hold and see if it is any better?

So we went to a lactation consultant - tongue tie! Blew my mind as she had fed comfortably and well for over 3 mos.
