Baby whisperer and bf

Have you had a positive experience of applying the baby whisperer approach when bf?

I have been plodding along quite happily with not much of a routine.
Dd is 4 and a bit months old. Quite calm and easy, sleeps well enough at night although wakes quite a few times to feed.

We co-sleep so both get back to sleep quite easily.

During the day she feeds very often (1hr or every 2 hours) and naps for very short periods. I can’t get a great deal done and worry that she is not getting enough sleep... she is otherwise thriving, I think.

Baby whisperer book claims that following her guidance will allow baby to nap longer.

I don’t really understand how you can stretch out times between bf (doesn’t fit with idea of bf on demand)?

Anyone had positive experiences of this? I know this book has a lot of detractors on mumsnet!

I used her method for both my kids .With breastfeeding I didn't restrict the amount of time he fed though. Turned out he only fed from one side per feed as well. For breastfeeding advice I relied on a book published by a breastfeeding association.not her book.
He conviently fell into her routine, which he was crying out for. BUT he is naturally a routine /by the clock kind of kid.

For my second her methods failed completely. Even with my best efforts getting DD sleeping independently or in a routine was pointless and stressful. With her I had to go with the flow and feed to sleep.
It is worth a try, like everything it is not a gospel just a guide, just pick the bits that are relevant to you. If it doesn't work for you or your baby after a given time, cut your losses and try something else.
Good luck.

Interested to see more thoughts on this - my baby is 5 weeks and I've been wondering the same thing! Seems completely incompatible with breastfeeding on demand.

It was a book I avoided after reading the review on Kellymom as it doesn't seem to be conducive to bf at all kellymom.com/parenting/reviews/review_babywhisperer/
