Foods to avoid when breastfeeding

I know all the advice is that there's nothing you should specifically avoid, but does anyone know of anything that reliably gives babies indigestion/upset stomach? I'm veggie and have a 4 week old - am wondering if my veg-dominated diet is going to be OK. Some pretty explosive nappyfuls so far, but I gather this is normal. All advice gratefully received.

not reliably - babies seem to react differently to different things.
Keep a food / poo diary if you really want to spot the correlations, but explosive nappies are indeed normal!

When I ate chocolate ds got terrible wind!

littlesthobo i wouldn't obssess about it, how will you know what food you have had relates to which poo? esp if it has been a few days between explosions as sometimes happens.

and i speak as one who called nhs direct when ds had his first poo. they laughed at me!

The only thing that's given ds a bit of an upset stomach was when I was on antibiotics (they made me feel rubbish too!).

I've not restricted my diet in any way and we've been fine. There will be days when your ds/dd seems irritable/fussy/windy but that's normal along with the spectacular poo explosions!

That's not to say obviously that no babies are affected by their mother's diet but it seems to be the exception rather than the rule so there's no point trying to anticipate it.

Jack Newman mentions it in his breastfeeding myths as one of the many ways that society makes breastfeeding seem more difficult and inconvenient for the mother than it needs to be (see also drinking loads of water, avoiding alcohol etc etc etc)

When I took dd for cranial osteopathy, she recommended that for colicky babies it was best to avoid peppers and onions, and I think she may have said others that would make us windy too, but those two are the ones that stuck in my mind.
