Hello all
A friend of a friend has set up this website which lists breastfeeding friendly venues.
It looks great to me - if you're interested please take a look and add information on venues local to you.

I should add that I think the website is very much in its infancy, so needs people to list local venues.
Over to mumsnetters!

Lovely idea.

Can you change a couple of spelling mistakes? Decaffinated should be Decaffeinated and Discrete should be Discreet on this page here

I also think that you should be able to bf in all places, but recognise that that's not necessarily going to be the case any time soon!

Sorry, not my website but I'll email the project manager to let her know about this post.

Good idea and I like their tone!!

Another correction - NCT breastfeeding counsellors are not 'trained professionals'....we are trained volunteers and that's important for mothers to know

They could add the nos. for the other three breastfeeding support lines, too

What would be very nice as well would be a list of bf support groups.

great stuff - have submitted a couple of local places.

Hi I'm the founder of Milkmates and am so chuffed that there is this thread. I'm really relying on like minded mums to help me get this off the ground and this is a great start! In respone to a couple of comments thanks for the pointer to the spelling mistakes they have been corrected. You'll probably see I didn't change NCT trained professionals to trained volunteers, the reasn being as follows! My paid work involves running a Volunteer Centre (like an agency for volunteers, matching them to voluntary opportunites). It's a personal opinion but I firmly believe that the word professional does not indicate a paid role and just because the role is voluntary does not mean that the NCT breastfeeding counsellors are not professional or as knowledgable, highly trained or skilled as any paid worker such as a midwife or health visitor! Volunteers should "big" themselves up more often. Anyway rant over, thanks again for your support.

ols, please, please change professionals to volunteers!

It's not really up to you, sorry, what we are called! It doesn't matter what your personal opinion of the word is, even though I do thank you for the nice things you're saying

We often have to correct myths about what we do, reminding people we are volunteers, that this isn't our job, that we are not paid, that we cannot always visit people when they want us to, that we do not charge money, that a charity pays for our training and expenses, that we do not work for the NHS.

We call ourselves 'volunteers' and I think you should go along with that

Good luck with the venture!
