descale your kettle

theUrbanDryad · 13/05/2007 18:13

boil up 1 part white vinegar to 2 parts water, then give it a good scrubbing and boil up normal water in it, then rinse it out. should sort out the problem.

JodieG1 · 13/05/2007 18:14

Yep sounds like kettle needs descaling.

raspberryberet · 13/05/2007 18:16

Don't fill the kettle too full when you boil the vinegar in it though - it fizzes up and if your kettle is too full it ends up all over the kitchen (this is the voice of experience!).

its a new kettle...descaled the old one and bits appeared next day again so bought a new one and same problem...

weston - if you live in a very hard water area (like i do) then that's more than possible. i descale my kettle every 2 days. well, i do if i can be bothered!

Ceebee74 · 13/05/2007 19:39

Have had this problem where my parents live - but still made up the bottles (the bits tend not to go in as they sink to the bottom of the kettle/jug) and DS certainly never noticed the difference.

Rantum · 13/05/2007 19:41

I know your kettle is new, but I think you can buy ones with an inbuilt filter.

Arriety · 13/05/2007 19:42

My mum used to have a metal thingy that looked a bit like a brillo pad that lived in the kettle and attracted the lime chunks. Might get one from an old-fashioned hardware store?

JodieG1 · 13/05/2007 20:00

Ours has a filter on it where you pour it out which stops anything from getting into the cup.

weston · 13/05/2007 20:12

if i get a kettle with a 'Removable, washable limescale filter' do u think that would solve the problem??
thank you

Yes as the limescale will stay in the kettle and not pour out.
