How much EBM for a night away?

Hello,
Hoping someone else has been in a similar situation and can share their experience.

DS is 6mo and eats a bit of 'real' food a day (a few cubes of frozen purée and maybe a stick or two of a veg) so not enough that it's going to be filling. The rest of the time he's ebf and is a hungry little tike. At the end of the month I'm going away for 2 days and one night for my friends hen do. I've been stock piling expressed breastmilk so my DP can defrost and bottle feed it him and so far I have stocked 40oz if morning and nighttime milk. I plan to freeze more but I wasn't sure how much is enough as I have no way of knowing how much he usually feeds? He generally only wakes once in the night for a feed luckily. How much do you think is a good amount to have at DPs disposal? And has anyone done the same and has any tips to share?
TIA!

Usually a bf baby will take 25floz in 24 hours hours but if you want proper info, ie not some random ont’internet) have a look at Kellymom Smile

Thank you @JiltedJohnsJulie! I'll take a look at the Kelly Mom website. I've been in there before actually and always felt like I could trust their info.
Hopefully if I do approx 60oz that should be enough, better get pumping!

I'd still love to know if anyone has done similar though and had any tips/advice?

I tend to go for the 25oz rule in a 24 hour period then add a bit more just incase. ds is same age as yours and eats similar amounts of food.
haven't been away for whole weekend but he has had several sleep overs at my parents and this seems to work well. he does wake lots at night too for feeds. so for example for a 12-14 hour night I would tend to leave about 16oz. there are usual several oz left over for next time

Thanks @sleepycat13. Hopefully a few more ozs and I should have enough. When your Ds stays with your parents how do they manage bottles in the night? Do you sterilise a bunch in the evening and leave them or ready? We don't have a machine to sterilise so we boil them on the hob but I wasn't sure how long they remain sterile iyswim.

I tend to make up a large bottle ready and send them with a clean one ready for use too and then the milk portioned into about 4 ounce feeds in plastic pouches so that they can get a feed out as and when needed. the whole lot is then stored in the fridge until needed.
I steralise the bottles in a steam sterliser but to be honest at 6 months old sterilizing isn't as necessary anymore so I tend not to stress about it too much. providing the bottles are kept in the fridge between feeds that night and cleaned well after use.

the Milton tablets for cold water sterilizing are a good option too though and you can keep bottles in the water until needed if you prefered to have everything sterile

GimbleInTheWabe · 15/04/2018 09:14

Thank you @sleepycat13! I'd heard of the Milton tablets but didn't know what they were tbh so I think I'll definitely be looking in to those. DS is crawling so it's hard to leave him to put anything on to boil so they sound like a great option!
Do you mark up which milk was expressed in the morning/evening? My morning milk is so thin I don't think Ds would stay asleep that long of DP gave him it!

I must admit I don't mark it up as I find fitting in expressing hard (as baby still feeds from the boob alot) so i just tend to use whatever milk is available. baby is happy to take whatever is offeted. but if you are able to express at different times and have enough to label it accordingly then this would probably be even better as I believe there is a difference between morning and night time milk.

I only really use Milton when I'm away but it's very easy to make up and use. you just need a largish container to put it in. I find a large tupperwear box is ideal for keeping bottles under the water and the lid then keeps it all clean and sterile for whenever needed after the initial 10mins soaking time.
