Carnation milk and 1960s babies!

I was horrified when I found out I was given Carnation milk as a baby (about one part Carnation to 4 parts water). My mum told me it was recommended by the paediatrician at the hospital for low weight/premature babies so she was just following the advice of the time. I realise I am not alone as I found other threads on the topic (e.g. on formula milks ). Who else had this?

if you simmer it in the can, in a pan of hot water for a while, it comes out as some kind of fudge/toffee type stuff that is yummy!!! nan used to do this for me!!

Is that not condensed milk whereas carnation milk is evaporated milk so completely different

I was born in 1950 and fed on evaporated milk. My father was in the army our family was stationed in occupied europe. Evaporated milk was normal baby food.

As i grew up I can remember the tins of evaporated milk had dilution instructions for feeding babies printed on them - different dilutions for different ages.

Condensed milk - the sticky one with added sugar - was the one marked not suitable for babies.

I still find evaporated milk utterly delicious on puddings!

Hi, I was born in the 1950's and my parents were told to give me evaporated milk. They never gave me a reason, just said the Dr advised them to.

Hi reading this information and was wondering does anyone born in the Mid 60’s and raised on Carnation Milk on the advise of a doctor like many where! Does any of you have a deformed/underdeveloped chest? I am a male so not talking breasts I am speaking of chest/bone structure in the center of your chest area? I feel with the lack of nutrition in Carnation Milk my bone structure did not properly develop!?

I was born in 1963 and brought up on carnation milk. I have had severe teeth problems from being 3 years old, having abscesses and major bone loss. Had dental implants and a bone graft 10 years ago and all the bone has now rotted and I’ve lost all implants in upper and lower jaw. I’m convinced this is due to lack of nutrients and calcium from this early age. Does anyone else suffer with bone loss?

I had my daughter in 1973 in hospital, where she was fed on Trufood liquid milk . I asked if l could buy this from the chemist but was told no. The alternative was Carnation evaporated milk, which l did, the tin gave instructions on how to make it up for baby feeding, it also had added iron, she was 8lbs born so no small.

Well, I was born in 1956 2 weeks premature and had a severe case of cholic to the point of not being able to hold anything down, was wasting away. My parents finally took me to see my mom's 80-year-old childhood doctor. He looked in my poopy diaper, sniffed the poop, then said, give her sweetened condensed milk. I slept the whole night through and the cholic went away.
