I HAVE STOPPED BREASTFEEDING

My DD was 2 on Sunday and since then has not had "Nummies" (her name for breastmilk)

Since the start of July I have been telling her that she will be a "Big Girl" and Big Girls don't have nummies, they have a cup of warm milk at bedtime.

On Sunday, she screamed for nummies and was standing up in her cot crying. We eventually got her to lie down and I sat beside the cot and read her a story. After that she wanted the book, so I passed it to her and she "read" it herself. I heard a little bit of crying a bit later but she soon settled.

Last night she still asked for nummies but we did not have quite she same fuss as sunday.

Tonight although she still asked for nummies there was no fuss at all when it was refused. She just lies down in her cot and I sit bedside it and read the story to her. I then give her the book as she want to read it herself. Tonight when I put on the story tape she wanted "Beauty and the Beast" on, she also wanted the book to read as well.

Last night asns tonight there has not been a sound out of her from when the light has been put out until the next morning.

I am so proud of her.

That was managed well MadameButterfly, well done. I wish I could have carried on as long as that. Now onto another stage of development

Quick update report.

Last night she woke up slightly when I went in to take the cup of milk out of her bed and replace it with water, but she settled again pretty quickly.

Then she woke up about 3am, when I went in to her, she was standing up in her cot wanting to go downstairs for breakfast. I took her over to the window to show her tat it was still dark outside. She then asked for a cup of warm milk which I said I would go and get, but she should have the water whilst I got it for her. She lay down with the cup of water and I went to the loo, when I finished, she was quiet so I went back to bed.

She is still asleep now.

Hi MadameButterfly - I've just done exactly the same as you. My dd was 2 a few weeks ago and was down to one feed in the morning, then one morning I offered it to her and she was too busy reading her book to be interested, so I took that as a sign to stop. She did ask me for "booby" a few times after that, including a couple of weeks later, but I just said we were going to have breakfast and she was happy. It's the end of an era isn't it? I'm pregnant with my second at the moment, so I guess I will only get 7 months off from being the milk machine!

Good luck and enjoy this new stage.

Wow! I am so impressed that you have managed feeding for 2 years! I'm coming up to 4 months of it and am struggling. Well done!

MadameButterfly · 05/08/2004 21:03

Just a quick update.

She woke up about 8.30am yesterday morning.

Last night she asked for "nummies" but did not make a fuss when she did not get any. She woke about 7.25 this morning.

Tonight daddy did the bedtime routine of potty, pyjamas and teeth before sending her into me. There was no men tion of nummies tonight and she lay down quietly while I read her 2 little miss stories. There has not been a peep out of her since I put out the light about 7.40pm

MadameButterfly - hope you're still getting on well with your new routine. My dd asked for "booby" again yesterday morning, this is now getting on for one month since we stopped! I think it was triggered by us visiting a new-born baby a few days ago, and dd was very interested in him feeding. But it's amazing me how long she's remembering that she fed from me too!! Still, she's very happy with alternative offers of breakfast.
