right hit me with whats ok for a 6 month old to eat blw. i know they can have anything apart from whloe nuts and honey. consideration to be given on preparation e.g salt and size e.g. finger foods.

dont know if ive been too adventurous though so far lo has had (2 days in

day 1

baby porridge -i know it can be normal stuff but bought this before i had decided if doing purees or blw
dairylea triangle
banana
pasta twirls with dribble of cheese sauce
carrot sticks
broccoli

day to

baby rice - bought same reasons as baby porridge
butternut squash waffle (halved )
bbq rib with out the sauce - was able to hold this well and she pulled it from the bone herself, chewed for abit then the cat got it lol
melon

whats peopls thoughts ? am i crazy giving her a rib . gill rapley said chicken drumsticks are fine as long as the sharp bone is removed.

she seems to eager to try everything. her face lights up when she is presented with something else. Also i thought she was sitting well in high chair (not there fully independently outwith ) but seems as though highchair is too big for her - shes only on the 9th centile, so have been bolstering it with a blanket - this ok ? think it really is cause shes so small.

Wow, sounds like she's doing well! The thing they recommend though is to introduce certain foods, such as dairy, wheat etc one at a time to monitor for possible allergies/intolerances. And to start maybe with one meal a day as food before 1 shouldn't aim to replace too many milk feeds. NHS website has lots of good advice :)

With blw it is fine to give them three meals a day because so little is eaten. Remember she should not have more than 1 gram of salt a day.

Don’t pressure yourself to give three meals a day. If she is asleep at normal meal time then it is fine for her to skip that meals because all in food needs are being met with milk.

thanks for your responses :)

i think i remember cheese no more than once a day ? ill need to look through the book again.

she seems to be really enjoying it and if we have food and she doesnt she looks annoyed . We had a greggs yesterday for lunch on the go and she was not impressed.

makingworkwork the ribs yesterday said 0.8 g of salt per 6 ribs, she only chewed on one - this ok or would you be aiming for a lower salt content ? i want to try stay away from processed foods and offer her as much as possible e.g. not limit her because my diet is so shit. I know that kinda goes against blw in the sense they eat what you eat.

Any advice on ways to give meat? is it better in strips - like i did last night or say if i was making mince and potatoes, to make hers into meatballs first ? what about the likes of boiled rice .- any special considerations there?

Shes bf so i hope that any possible allergens may have been picked up so far through that. she seems to have a flare up of fry skin/eczema but that was before introducing solids. I hope it is just down to the cold weather.

Cheese once a day will be down to salt in take.

We have a mostly veggie diet and DD always used to gag and vomit on chicken so I am afraid I can’t help with meat.

Hi Op,
I've just started BLW 5 days ago and we've had cheese, kale and tomato omelette, porridge with melon fingers, pancakes with Greek yoghurt, banana and cinnamon: Finger foods so far are carrot, pepper, cucumber, pineapple eggs, avocado and hummus. Are you on Facebook? If so I've joined the baby led weaning UK group, it's great everyone supports each other and lots of recipes are shared to help you out. X
