Meal ideas

Hi everyone

My baby is 7 months old and I'm currently doing a mix between BLW and spoon feeding.

I'm having such a mind blank/lack of creativity for meal ideas.I'm actually going to try start giving him what we eat, but I just never feel organised enough so we usually have our dinner once he goes to bed.

It's lunches I need ideas with as well. He is being a fuss pot just now with lumps so need to get him more used to them.

Please send me some ideas for meals and finger foods.

Thanks :) xx

Me too!

I usually just throw some veg in the steamer and give him a bit of meat and bread/potato/pasta on the side. Think he's getting bored of my crap cooking though 😟

I have a really easy fishcakes recipe? My little boy loved them and they are easy to eat with fingers or easy to cut up with a little knife and fork.

Basically get a pack of those frozen individual salmon fillets (I get them from lidl and they're cheap enough). Cook it through by dinging it in the microwave if like me you are extremely lazy. Break it up into flakes in a big bowl.
Add a small cereal bowl full of mashed potato (cold and leftover is perfect!), some cooked frozen peas and a couple of thinly sliced spring onions and mix together. Add plain flour until it goes to a doughy consistency, add a splash of milk if your mixture is too dry.

Roll into balls and squish them flat, then coat them in either plain flour or breadcrumbs, then fry them in a little bit of butter for flavour.
They will keep for a day or so cooked or uncooked in the fridge as well, so you could do some for you and DP for tea then give them to the baby for lunch the next day?

Just simple things like sandwiches, or soup with bread, or omelette, scrambled eggs, vegetable fritters (grated veg, flour, then pan fry), hummus on toast, quick "pizza" muffins, jacket potatoes with various fillings, avocado on toast.

(we're vegetarian, you might be able to tell!).

Grated courgette mixed with an egg, a spoon of flour and some cheese makes excellent veggie pancakes.

I top a small wrap with tomato sauce/passata, finely chopped up veg and spinach and some grated cheese, bung it in a hot oven for 5 mins and mini (healthy) pizzas!

Dd is obsessed with udon noodles, I cook hers in spiced coconut milk with green veggies and she hoovers them up. They’re good for little fingers as they’re so thick.

Homemade chicken nuggets - make a huge batch and they can be cooked from frozen. Really quick meal. I coat chicken breast in polenta and then pan fry until cooked.

Lentil Dahl with pitta fingers to dip in goes down well here. Same with homemade tomato soup and cheesy toast.

Tiny sandwiches, fill with avocado or hummus and veggies.

Things on toast - scrambled egg, poached egg, baked beans (Ocado do some sweetened with grape juice rather than sugar and they’re low in salt) cheese. All good for when you’re knackered and need something quick.

Have your dinner after he's gone to bed, and save him some leftovers for him to try for his lunch/dinner the following day. Simples.

Needgalaxy - I'm the same!! Definitely need to expand my horizons haha!

Thank you all so much for the brill ideas. Everything sounds super good. I really need to get cooking tomorrow and do some freezer filling. I also just bought some frozen salmon fillets so will be using them for tea tomorrow xxx

I would just save a portion of your dinner for the next day. That’s what I always did when mine ate earlier than us.

For lunch, pasta salad, toast with hummus, other dips, etc., savoury muffins or mini pasties (I would make a batch and freeze them), soups with toast, breadsticks with nut butter, scrambled eggs or boiled eggs. Plus a veg or fruit with each meal.

Make our dinner without added salt or pick a bit out for DS and we are eating just before 6 then bath, brush tooth, story, BF, hopefully down in cot. Bedtime is 8ish but struggling just now with nasty cold (both of us) and teething and a fair few wake ups even if not feeds so usually in with me

Rumpledfaceskin · 27/02/2018 15:52

If you eat healthy meals I’d just give him what you’re having. My dd loved fish pie with peas and sweet corn in. It’s quite a good texture for them to get used to lumps a easy to make.

ginandnappies · 27/02/2018 15:54

Perfect thanks guys! Definitely need to get planning better, I've hit a rut big time with our meals too and just faff around and make something on the spot so will get meal plans and save leftovers.

arbrighton - oh us too! It's horrible, he's up and down all night :( x
