Baby doesn't want to breastfeed anymore

Hi, my little girl is nearly 5 months and has a history of very slow weight gain, reflux causing sandifer syndrome (they think) and has now been referred to a new paediatrician next week to look closer into what's going on, query cows milk protein intolerance.

I exclusively breastfed her for the first 10 weeks then started to top her up with formula because of the weight gain issue. She has unfortunately started to favour the bottle over breast and had been slowly dropping breast feeds over the last couple of weeks until she would only breastfeed before bed and in the night when she wasn't properly awake.

She now isn't interested in the bedtime feeds either Sad and is becoming fussy with night feeds until I give in and make her a bottle.

I feel sad, should I just accept defeat and stop trying to feed her myself, she is telling me she doesn't want it anymore isn't she?

Is there anyone that's managed to persuade their baby to breastfeed again at this stage and can give me some tips?

Thank you Smile

Hi OP,

How are you getting on now?

My DS started being a fussy breastfeeder at a similar age and we had a couple of nursing strikes. I had to feed him in quiet, dimly lit rooms or he wouldn’t bother. He also often refused at bedtime. I decided he was too tired and offered earlier in the evening or did a sort of dream feed instead. I tried not to make it a battle and just offered regularly.
Have you done paced bottle feeding to reduce the chance that she prefers the faster flow of the bottle? If not, google it for tips.

I’m trawling these boards because at just turned 1 he has refused to feed at all for the last 48 hours Shock I think some babies just like it less!
