Tips for weaning toddler - breastfeeding

Tamularoom · 27/01/2018 11:37

Baby is 19 months and for various reasons I'd like to stop breastfeeding, she doesn't have the milk as a "feed" so much anymore but feeds to sleep twice a day for naps and bedtime. She doesn't ask to feed or instigate it but doesn't settlle to sleep without.

I've tried lullaby music but she gets too distracted, controlled crying isn't for us as she gets way too worked up so quickly being left.

Please help!!

Is Dad around? I dropped the feed before bed by just not being there for a few evenings and let DH do bath, books, bed Smile

DP works shifts, normally later ones so more often than not he isn't home for bedtime so couldn't do that consistently unfortunatley!

Has he got a break coming up? It only took 3 nights for us Smile

Can he take holiday? It took 3 nights to wean DD19 months from feeding tô sleep. We did the daytime nap by making sure we were out during naptime (só sleeping in car or buggy) for about a week.

Following. I get ds down for daytime nap in buggy but not sure how night time is going to work.

I'd separate feeding from sleep, so I'd do the feed downstairs with lights on and then get ready for bed afterwards. Clean teeth etc, and then take up to bed. Then settle her any way you can without feeding! Probably some form of gradual retreat, or staying with her until she's asleep.

I'd also probably tackle either bedtime or nap first, not both at the same time.

Following with interest. We have conquered the daytime naps so eyes peeled for night time tips Grin and during the night tips. Although I feel that one is just going to suck whatever clever tricks I try!
