My LO is almost 7 months.

I am currently giving him:
Porridge for breakfast
Meal for lunch, plus soft carrot as finger food
Meal for dinner plus banana sticks for afters
Milk in between (which seems to be a bottle less compared to before as he's losing interest)

Is this ok or am I feeding him too much food?

Anyone??

Mines just over 7 months but I give similar.
But the lunchtime meal is often just something light enough. Like today he had toast fingers with smashed avocado and hummus and a big piece of pear.
Dinner time he had some chicken, sweet potato and peas and carrots. He also had a small portion of yogurt.
I Always give regular porridge for breakfast.
He is BF and definitely think he is taking a bit less during the day now.
So sounds fine to me!

Been wondering the same so watching this thread.

Sounds pretty similar to my 7 1/2 month old.

She has cereal or porridge for breakfast with fruit or yoghurt or 1 slice toast to gum on

Lunch is bowl of homemade soup or something similar, fruit for after

Dinner is whatever we are having

And she has 4-5 bottles a day varying from 4 oz -7 oz per feed and some water with meals!
Looks like loads written down!

If you don't mind me asking, what do you tend to make for yourself? I just don't know where "what we are having" applies and is edible for the little one so I've been relying on jars. I want to get away from them though!

And are you mashing these foods or giving as finger food?

I don't know where to start with feeding him meat!

Ok. For example yesterday I made spaghetti bolognese - didn't add salt or sugar.
So he had that with some small pasta shapes spoon fed. Not mashed.
Today we had a chicken pot pie (chicken spring onion, mushrooms, cream, pastry) with sweet potatoes roasted (cut the size of chunky chops) and peas and carrots sticks.
I gave him the sweet potatoes and carrots to hold as finger food.
I broke up the chicken into smaller pieces and he ate with the sauce and peas.
Have given him homemade pizza, chilli con carne, chicken curry.
I just leave out the salt.
I know some people give the meat as big chunks but I prefer not to!

Greylilypad · 23/01/2018 19:58

actually just realised you were asking the other poster but we do the same at dinner - whatever we are having (unless it's totally unsuitable although most evenings I just want to make one meals for all then family so generally I will make things I know he can eat)

lolz45 · 23/01/2018 20:06

I honestly feel so stupid.

I think I'm thinking far much into it. I've been giving jars as I thought it would "easier" as I didn't know I could give him regular things as you've mentioned (that's our kind of diet).
When in fact, I'm giving him rubbish food and it's an extra thing for me to warm.

Did little one eat the mince and onions etc in the bolognese? Do you make your sauce from scratch?

(Sorry if I'm asking so many questions)

Yes he ate the mince and onions no problem. Have also given him homemade meatballs which he also ate.
I did make the sauce but just a really quick one - garlic, onions, mince, tins of tomatoes a few herbs. Sometimes add carrots.
I definitely find it easier just to give what we are eating especially once they are over 7 months and more used to chewong

Greylilypad · 23/01/2018 20:30

But don't feel stupid! No big deal to give a few jars. Just do what suits you.

WeeCheekyBird · 23/01/2018 22:46

We eat things like mince and tatties, stews, pasta...anything really. I don't puree and only mash it down if its meaty or chunky. My girl has learned to chew though and can easily eat the stage 3 foods but every kid is different there. I just don't give her anything too chewy or hard to chew but everything else she can try.

Shes even had tastes of puddings (very occasionally ) so she has a wide range to eat.

Dont feel stupid. I'm a ftm and have no real idea what I'm doing! I just go by what she can manage and she lets me know when she isn't happy or dislikes something.

The problem I have now though I'd she won't eat jars or pouches because they are much more bland and less varied than the food we have.

WeeCheekyBird · 23/01/2018 22:48

Also things like fish always go down well and I let her "play" with her food. If she wants a feel or to try doing it herself I let her and just supervise. If its able to be finger food she prefer it over spoon feeding!
