Baby porridge

What do you feed your 7m/o for breakfast?

What brand do you use? And what's your reasons for this?

I am trying my LO on porridge but didn't know between Ella's, Aptamil and Cow and Gate

My baby (and actually all her friends) aren't keen on how lumpy normal porridge is.

I've been buying flahavans quick oats which make a smoother porridge and only takes 1 minute in the microwave. I make it with water then add some mashed pear or prunes to it for flavour. (I'd make it with cows milk but DD seems to have a dairy allergy).

WorkingMumOnTheGo · 23/01/2018 19:01

I just gave him normal plain porridge

SleepForTheWeek · 23/01/2018 19:05

Hi, my DD is 7mo. She gets either weetabix or ready brek mixed with milk and fruit purée. Occasionally she'll have buttered toast and fruit fingers

If you were me, would you use the baby branded ones you bought, or would you throw them and buy regular porridge?

I feel so stupid!!

Just mix them with normal porridge to use them up and sort of wean off?

TeddyIsaHe · 23/01/2018 19:07

Use the ones you bought! I was exactly the same as you and bought only baby stuff before realising normal versions weren’t going to poison dd. We all have to learn somehow!

AssassinatedBeauty · 23/01/2018 19:08

Oh I'd use up what I'd bought, definitely. Please don't give yourself a hard time! It's not a big deal at all, and baby brands are heavily marketed and advertised.

insertimaginativeusername · 23/01/2018 19:14

Defo use them up!

MigGril · 23/01/2018 19:16

That is the great thing about weaning after 6 months they can have almost any normal food. You just have to watch the salt intake and no honey just about anything else is fine.

Most baby food manufactures don't want you to realise this or they would be out of a job. I used some snack bars as no added surger, DS still eats them now at 7 as he likes them. But often the plain normal versions are better as less extra added stuff.

incywincy123 · 23/01/2018 19:22

I just hope he doesn't hate the normal boring ones after eating the strawberry Ella one haha!

Thank you everyone x

I just give my LO normal porridge oats made with whole milk. I've been resisting adding any fruit or anything as she takes it plain at the moment.

lizzlebizzle33 · 23/01/2018 20:30

Don't feel stupid OP, we've all been there. I was spending over £3 a box on boots baby porridge until I realised I could just give him plain normal porridge oats and he loved it, never looked back.x

headintheproverbial · 23/01/2018 22:27

One good thing about the plain baby porridge is that you literally just add water and stir. It's very quick. I use the Hipp Organic one which doesn't have sugar added.

But yes real porridge is the best!

HemlockStarglimmer · 23/01/2018 22:46

I asked my health visitor about baby porridge and she said just use ordinary plain porridge oats and whizz it finer in a food processor. So that's what I did (She also said the baby stuff tastes vile 😁).

WorkingMumOnTheGo · 03/02/2018 23:19

My son loved the Aldi (Mamia) creamy porridge. It smells really nice too! We only used it when we was staying at a hotel for a couple of the nights (just mix boiled water with it). O

FartnissEverbeans · 05/02/2018 17:27

Organix plum and banana baby porridge is amazing! I'd eat it myself.

I actually loved baby porridge/Ready Brek because it's so much quicker to prepare than regular porridge.

Mumsnet tip: buy Oatibix instead of Weetabix. Weetabix pops are an absolute nightmare to clean off of baby's bum - those little flaky bits stick!
