right i finally got ds onto gaviscon after much convincing of the doctors on my part as they said 'well you've put up with it for 6 months blah blah blah!' well i didnt realise what it was, as i think he had 'silent reflux' to begin with, but is now being sick.........anyway, he got the gaviscon and it was brill but i was told by some people on here about a formula called enfamil which does the same and doesnt have the extra dose of sodium.....great i think and ask the docs....no thats only for bad cases (ie. he hasnt lost weight yet so we wont do it!).....anyway, they say try cutting down the dose of gaviscon from 2 sachets to 1 each feed, did that and ds went back to normal sicking everywhere...so upped it to 2 again, thinking i'd talk to the doc when i go back for another prescription, but now hes basically stopped eating!!!! (and im tearing my hair out!!!) a 4am he took 6oz which was brilliant for him, then he gets up at 7 not hungry.....8am hes hungry, give him a bottle 2oz's that it........now hes playing on the floor like he hasnt got a care in the world!! on the docs advice that solids would help his reflux i started weaning a couple of days ago but he just sicks all that up too..........what do i do???????????????? please help, feel like im failing!!!

stacey --

i have a "picky eater" who sometimes decides to take the bottle and sometimes has no interest. I know how frustrating that can be. Easier said than done, but i've finally learned not to get stressed out about every individual feed -- that's been really hard though. i now remind myself that a hard day of eating (or two) is usually followed by an easier day (or, hopefully, two).

also, if it helps, my db has a pattern of waking at about 7:30, not showing any interest in the bottle until about 8, he takes a few ounces, plays happily for about 40 minutes, takes a few more ounces, plays for about 15 more minutes, and then may take a few more right before his 9:15ish nap. but, if he ate 6 oz at 4am (he usually takes 2.5 oz at 4am) i don't think he'd be hungry until noon!

but you are certainly not failing -- it sounds to me like you've done everything right.

thank you for the help........its just driving me mad!! i cant seem to work out what/when he wants....dd used to have good and bad days with eating, but nothing to this extent, i dont think it helps that he's being sick as well, just makes it all worse!

it's taken me about four months to be able to sound this calm and rational about it!

also, that little mini-feeding schedule i have took me a long time to figure out. i think that one morning i finally gave up trying to give him more and then about 40 minutes later he "asked" for more.

ask the doctor for losec or zoton. they were the only things that helped ds' silent reflux. i had to ask to be refferred to a ENT paed though to get it.

Hiya Stacey

My ds is now coming up to 9 months but he has Reflux.
It isnt as bad now but he has only just started to have an interest in food.
We have been offering it since he was 5 months. Purees he wouldnt let near his mouth and certain foods would just make him vomit.
So we decided to do BLW. He prefers that but if he swollows a tiny bit thats bigger than normal, he will throw up everything.

As for the milk. He has no routine at all. He still demand feeds and tbh it works better like that. If I force feed him at a certain time, he will vomit if he feeds when he wants, he is fine.

Dont stress about the solids. It takes some time for them to help with the reflux. What your gp is saying is that eventually the consistency of the food will strenghthen his Sphincter and eventually he will vomit less.
