Anyone else feel relieved when their DC took a bottle?

Hi,

my DC is five months old and was dxed FTT by a GP on the basis of one consultation. She referred him to a pediatrician, and in the meantime suggested I introduce a bottle and some solids.

I had been EBF him and now bf him around 3 times a day. Now that he is kind of taking a bottle I feel so much relief, and my family have been commenting on how much better I look, and DC seems happier too.

I had been aiming at the EBF for six months, and didn't want to introduce solids till then either, but feel that if he can put on some weight, and feel full for a change it can only be a good thing.

I have tried him on the baby rice once, and he HATED it, but last night he took about two teaspoons of pear and something else.

Not sure why am posting this, just wanted to share the sense of relief, and sense of a weight being taken off my shoulders.

Anyone else feel this way when bf isn't going as well as is best for mum AND baby?

Low weight.

I personally think she was too quick to diagnose that as the problem, but over the past couple of months he has put on very little weight so I don't think she was completely off the mark.

I will be very interested to find out what the pediatrician says next week - hopefully he is just a small baby!

It's hard when EVERYBODY (including complete strangers and family members) comments on what a small baby he is....

Hi,

no, this was a one-off appointment with the GP who we saw because DC had a chesty cough that had been hanging around for a few days.

I am actually out of the UK for a few weeks so didn't even have DCs red book with me (don't worry next time I am away for a reasonable time I'll bring it with me!).

DC has actually had a few on-going health problems / concerns since he was born. He's seems happier since he's been having the formula! He's still not doing very much but is trying to rollover and tonight was "playing" with a toy.

He seems to sleep a fair bit but when he is awake he is happy and alert....

I think if his ONLY concern was low weight I may not have rushed to the formula, but it's his other problems / issues that I am going to try to get sorted (or at least find out what they are if they actually exist!)...

I am so hoping I'll be able to say exactly what you say!

My dd si very very very small, but perfectly formed, and did not make huge progress in wiehgt after the first two months. However, she made steady progress and is fit healthy and nothing at all wrong with her. My HV said she was failing to thrive, GO alaughed and said she was not.
HV went on the red book, what are Thrive lines?
at 8 months, she was 15lb, dont know what she is now as I stopped going because it stressed me out so much.
However, she has now started taking a bottle, at 9.5 months!, and like you, I am releived, because it means that I feel she is defintely getting the right nutrients (althoughshe almost walks so not doing too badly!)

and yes, everyone says how small she is, like I had not noticed!
