I just wondered what everyone's opinions/experiences with infacol was.

Been using it for 4 days now and I'm unsure if it's working or if it's making him vomit more?! Don't know whether to persevere or stop

I used gripe water. So nothing to add just a wee bump.

AccrualIntentions · 27/12/2017 21:41

We've been using it a few weeks and not sure it's made much difference, maybe slightly easier to burp her.

Tedster77 · 27/12/2017 21:41

I’m a HCP and there’s no evidence at all behind it relieving colic but I used it with all my children Blush.

The idea behind or helping them being up wind is that it makes all the little bubbles join together as one big bubble - thus easier to bring up.

HOWEVER if that is under milk then yup, they bring it all up.

Anecdotal evidence finds lots of babies more sick on it.

Chloejaye96 · 27/12/2017 22:07

I really don't know what to do whether to keep him on it or stop. My new born really struggles with trapped wind where he arches his back & brings his legs up it's horrible!

I don't think it helped my boy much. He had terrible reflux. The best thing I found was gripe water
Hope you find something to help little one feel better

NoNoCharlieRascal · 27/12/2017 22:24

I tried it but it didn't really seem to make a difference for us. I found tummy massages and bicycle legs much more effective. Also Tiger in a Tree hold was a godsend.

Chloejaye96 · 27/12/2017 22:30

Thank you I hope I can find something too!! It's horrible seeing him in pain, bicycle legs has been working. What's Tiger in a tree hold?!

I didn't think Infacol helped with either of mine. For DS1 gripe water was like a little miracle in a bottle, but it didn't help DS2 much.

ememem84 · 27/12/2017 22:32

We were using it religiously and it seemed to help ds. But I don’t want to have to give it to him every feed and for him to become reliant on it (if that’s at all possible). So he has it maybe once or twice a day.

To help him burp though I make sure he’s sat up on my lap/kept upright as much as possible for about 30 minutes after a bottle and I also tip him sideways when burping (sat on lap, top to the right to the left to the front and burp - he smiles when we do this...works practically every time)

Ceebs85 · 27/12/2017 22:36

Didnt work for us. Literally the only thing that worked was time. We had 3 weeks of continuous screaming for up to 7hrs on an evening then suddenly it stopped at 5 weeks

NoNoCharlieRascal · 27/12/2017 22:57

This is Tiger in a Tree hold op, worked miracles in calming and making ds more comfortable, he's 6 months now but we still use it at times. I would also lie him across my lap and pat/rub his back after feeding, we seemed to move more wind like that, and then upright in a sling or on my chest for at least 20 minutes afterwards. We found three was our magic burp number (on average).

Infacol
NoNoCharlieRascal · 27/12/2017 23:02

The other thing to do if the wind has moved down is to bicycle, then bring the legs up and then over to one side, relax down and then up and over to the other side. Then bring the legs up and draw into babys middle and hold for a count of nine. Also to draw up and then straighten out the legs. Obviously all very gently.

Ds had awful issues with his gut and wind, it really was a dreadful time. He still has a few issues now but fortunately it's a lot easier to help him out these days.

As a last thought I was able to get a nursery nurse to come out and show me massages to help him move wind, I was recommend through my hv.

Redken24 · 28/12/2017 09:38

The best winding technique for my kid was to sit her on knee/arm and wiggle her bum side to side obviously not too vigourous for your newborn but can't beat just winding after every ounce too 😓 as time consuming it is when your knackered

Redken24 · 28/12/2017 09:38

Sit her on my knee / arm

ItsChristmoose · 28/12/2017 09:40

Infacol and gripe water are bullshit.

Over 3 babies have never not bought both on Amazon Prime in the middle of the night in desperation...😂

Sometimes just feeling like you are doing something for your miserable baby is worth the cost.

Chloejaye96 · 28/12/2017 12:19

I'm going to not give him infacol today and see what he's like, as I've started using dr brown bottles which should be helping too. Thanks everyone for your advice

Confusedbeetle · 28/12/2017 12:26

There is no evidence that either Infacol or Gripe water helps. As a matter of fact there is no evidence that unsettled babies' discomfort is due to wind. The only thing to do if find out what comforting strategies work for your child, which will be different from another. All the positional, rubbing, soothing, cuddling (which is essential even if it doesnt remove the discomfort) So called "colic" is a meaningless phrase, just means belly ache.

ItsChristmoose · 29/12/2017 00:52

Chloe if it helps at all, most babies go through a 'miserable bastard' phase for a few weeks where you spend a lot of time trying to figure out if it's wind or colic or teething or whatever. You usually never figure it out but it does suddenly pass overnight.
