Breastfeeding when flat chested!

I am an A/B cup, though boobs have blossomed somewhat since getting pregnant. I'm wondering if I'm likely to have problems breastfeeding given modest boob size? If so, I'd really like to be mentally prepared so I don't feel rubbish. Any reassurance or advice welcome...

No, not at all. You can be flat as a pancake and produce plenty of milk for your baby.

I've always been an a/b cup, and I bf both my dc for almost 3 years each.

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 23/12/2017 21:21

Boob size has absolutely nothing to do with it. You have nipples, baby can feed! Your boobs will likely get a bit bigger again when your milk comes in anyway.

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 23/12/2017 21:21

nope! In fact it will be a lot easier for you - far trickier to position and feed discretely when you have G cups, trust me. Inverted nipples can be tricky, but not impossible (I overcame that one) but never small boobs.

upsiedayz · 23/12/2017 21:21

Nope it won't be a problem. I'm small of boob and breastfed DC until 14 months

prettypaws · 23/12/2017 21:22

Nope, it doesn't make a difference. You can have very little breast tissue and have oversupply.

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 23/12/2017 21:22

also helps to think of them as taps, not resevoirs!

Haggisfish · 23/12/2017 21:23

Def taps! I have minuscule boobs and fed for 3.5 years! I told one elderly lady this, who looked me up and down and said ‘really?! But you’ve got nothing up top!’Grin

jbee1979 · 23/12/2017 21:24

Unlikely. I was a b cup all my life and an a cup when pregnant and I'm still feeding 31 months later. I had no idea it might be an issue, I just wanted to so I did. Find out where you can get support now, so you have contacts when youre in the thick of it. Good luck :-)

Thank you all, that's a relief!

@DrRanjsRightEyebrow that's interesting re inverted nipple. I have one that's a bit flat/inverted, but it pops out when cold. Was it a struggle? Any tips (no pun intended!) there?

Nope, doesn't matter :) Most of boob padding is just fat and it's glands which make the milk, they don't take up as much space.

My boobs are so small I rarely ever wear a bra and I fed DS until he was 4! I do actually have to wear bras now because my nipples are pointy following this Hmm

EveryoneTalkAboutPopMusic · 23/12/2017 21:28

Was AA/A before becoming PG and successfully fed 2 past the 2 years recommended. You’ll be fine. Xmas Smile

DrRanjsRightEyebrow · 23/12/2017 21:31

not really - I used a suction thing from lanisoh or a breastpump to get it out a tiny bit for the first few days. He was born early so not a strong latch - when he got a bit bigger it wasn't needed. Also they don't just suck on the nipple but rather take most of the areola into their mouths so it doesn't matter the nipple shape really. After a few months they stayed out and now, 4 years on I have nice 'normal' nipples!

GrooovyLass · 23/12/2017 21:31

I've got enormous boobs (HH cup) and struggled horrendously with BFF before getting mastitis and having to give up when DD was less than 2 weeks old. On this occasion size truly doesn't matter...
