Hi,

I was sick last saturday with this horrible stomach bug. Was puking my guts up and feeling nautious for days.

Am all over it now but struggling to get my appetite back. For the first couple of days of the sickness I ate nothing and I am still not up to eating normally.

Heres a summary of my diet-

Sat/sun = nothing
Mon = 1 poached egg, 1/2 pkt supernoodles
Chicken lattice and few chips
Tue = 2 turkey rolls, 2 sausages and few spoonfuls of mash potato, 1 ic cream
Wed = Chick and leek pasty, pizza and fudge cake.
Thurs = Only managed a steamed chicken and veg meal today.
Fri = potato, prawns and veg in cheese sauce, 1 pkt maltesers, 1 piece of whole meal toast

Ok so you get the picture, not very healthy I know.
The thing is, I do have some extra weight to shift. Before I was sick I was eating tons and had no will power. A few days of being sick has given me the boost I need to lose weight.
I am finding that I am getting full relatively quickly and not feeling hungry during the day. I'm an eat when im hungry type of girl (sometimes i'm picking all the time)

I just need to know if eating like this is really bad for my milk supply, I would have thought after 9 months of breastfeeding I should be ok. But could really use your advice. Should I be forcing myself to eat more (even if i'm not hungry).

I have no idea how many calories i am eating, or should be for that matter.

Obviously I want whats best for dd3 but also dont want to go back to eating like I was, as I was steadily gaining weight as opposed to losing it.

That's all really, sorry it's so long winded.

Pinkdolly you need to eat my girl or it will mess with your head, you are doing your body no good and will not be able to keep up your milk supply. You will become very tird and irritable. Loose weight by regular excersise & good food, take little one out for a daily walk around the block, meet up and walk with other mums, it will give you confinence and a fresh head. But please dont go down the minimal eating route or in a years time you will realise you are practicing an eating disorder.

You need to get yourself on a proper diet if you wish to lose weight. Look on the big/fat/slim topic for various ones.

Hi pink - not seen you on the July thread for a while, sorry to hear that you haven't been feeling so well. I think you need to eat a better diet for you, but it won't affect your milk supply, your DD will still get what she needs. You'd have to be literally starving to not produce milk.

I find now I'm weaning DS that it makes me think a lot more about what I'm eating (still eat a lot of rubbish too tho ). Take care of yourself {{hugs}}

pinkdolly, diet only normally affects milk supply if it is consistently and long-term and majorly inadequate....if you carried on with this sort of eating for a long time, then it would really not be good for you (you would suffer before your milk did - but eventually, it would become harder for your body to make milk).

Hope you get some good help with your diet soon. You can't stay healthy on what you have had this week....

Thanx for your advice. I dont plan to stay eating like this. I have been a bit naughty in the fact that I am using my sickness to give my over eating habit the kick (what I was eating b4 was just awful).

Mae- I popped on the other day, but I dont visit enough and can never seem to keep up with the thread. What am I like.

Hmm, maybe I should go back to WW. I tried b4 xmas but didn't have the staying power .

Thanx again.

Pink

pink - i felt ill reading the list of what you eat ! you need to get some fruit and veg. in there and less processed food, for YOU as much as for your child

i lost my preg. weight within 2 weeks after ds was born thanks entirely to bf and exhaustion but after 6 months of excl. bf, i started to really over eat and gain weight again.

i am a bit over weight now, but i try to eat healthy food, lots of fish, less red meat, fruit, veg, less junk like crisps, etc.

weight watchers give bf mums extra points when bf. why don't you contact them or some other orgs. and tell them you bf an older baby and see what they say ?

i think kellymom.com says don't eat less that 1800 calories per day when bf (excl. or with a baby that is on solids) but check that website too.

but honestly i think eating a well-balanced healthy diet is more important that losing weight as it will give you more energy and NO what you are eating now isn't going to "dry up" your milk, but it isn't healthy for you long-term, also even small children copy what mum and dad eat so we need t set a good example for them too !

The easiest way to lose weight (slowly but) permanently is to try to eat a non-processed, balanced diet all the time. Diets and eating plans are far too boring and time-consuming IMO.

I eat cereal with milk or bread and butter/jam, a glass of fruit juice and a coffee for breakfast and one serving of protein, one of carbohydrate and at least two servings (and often much much more) of fruit and vegetables at lunch and supper. Obviously I add butter, olive oil, cream, vinaigrette, seasonings, herbs, a bit of cheese etc for flavour. And that's it, except for the odd cake or ice cream.
