Buying electric pump vs renting hospital grade

Just looking in options as I’d like to mostly express for the first 1-3 months. Would I be better off buying a medela double electric pump or renting a fancier model like a spectra for a few months?
Anyone have experience of using both?

NOt used a hospital one but have a look at the Andean Lactaline. It’s hospital grade and I looked mine.

The hospital grade are definitely better however it is not to say the Medela one will be shit.

I had a premature baby so pumped whilst he was in hospital for the first 5 weeks then purchased a medela hands free one for Hom. I ended up pumping for 6 months - I’ll be honest it was hard going!

I almost exclusively pumped for twins for 5 months. You need a hospital grade pump if you are doing it a lot. You can rent direct from medela for £46 (I think) a month. I also had a single medela battery operated electric pump for taking out and about, think it was around £100.

For both babies, I used a hospital pump to express for 2-3 days in hospital then switched to avent single electric pump once back home which immediately seemed to produce better results than the hospital one. Currently using exclusively pumping for 5 month old baby off the back of 3 20-30 min pumps per day using avent single pump.

I borrowed hospital grade one and then bought electric. There was just no comparison and hospital one was far far superior. In the end I actually preferred the manual pump because it was quieter.

I rented a hospital grade Medela then bought a spectra S1. I much prefer the spectra - more comfortable, quieter, rechargeable so no dragging a lead and plug everythere plus it's more efficient. DH has pointed out that the hospital grade one is probably 5 years older so buying one means better technology

My DD is 4 months and I've been pumping exclusively for her since day 10 after 14% weight loss. I have a spectra S1 which I got after about 6 weeks. It's wonderful. You can often get them 2nd hand off eBay but they are £150 ish new I think so not too pricey.

RainbowWish · 17/12/2017 21:05

Wish I had known that was an option.
I bough one and while it was good, the hospital one was so much better. And it was just as easy to clean/ sterilize

MrsPicklesonSmythe · 17/12/2017 22:03

The spectra s1 was the one I’d been looking at hiring. Do you think there’d be a decent resale on it if I only used it for a couple of months? I’d rather not buy second hand as I’d want the warranty etc

Check second hand websites and see what it resells for in your area. Cost me £170 on Amazon I think (spectra S1)

KatoGreen · 17/12/2017 22:49

Hospital grade double pump was much better than my medela swing

firsttimer12345 · 18/12/2017 07:38

Think they go for up to about £75 on eBay 2nd hand so fairly decent resale. I'll be in the market for a new one soon as mine has done nearly 1000 hours. They are guaranteed for 1500 I think.
