Hungry baby formula

Hi,

Looking for some advice on using hungry baby formula. My DS is 15 weeks old and taking 8oz of formula every 4 hours. He drinks it really quickly and finishes the bottle within 10 minutes but has started to cry after when I take the empty bottle away. He was settling absolutely fine on 8oz and was content after until the last week or so, at 15 weeks it's obviously too early to wean so I'm thinking hungry baby milk.

What are other people's experiences?

Thanks

Feed more often maybe? There were times my dc took up to 11 ounces in one feed

He should be having roughly 2.5 floz per pound of weight in 24 hours. Is he getting this?

FWIW hungry baby milk doesn’t contain any more calories, it just takes longer to digest so is effectively like putting your baby on a calories controlled diet. I’m not saying that in a judgey way 🙂

Just give more milk. I wouldn't touch hungry baby milk with a barge pole.

Yep, feed more often during the day.

I would just feed when your baby is hungry... Give bigger feeds too if he needs them. The guidelines for feed frequency and volume are for the average baby, not for all babies.

DC1 was massive and needed more than the advised amount of formula. He was lovely and plump as a baby and at his recent 2 year check was pronounced 'perfect' on the 98th centile. Some kids are just big and hungry. Plus he could be having a growth spurt.

Hungry baby milk is no extra calories, so if he needs more energy for a growth spurt etc, he won't get it from hungry baby milk. Plus, it can make them constipated. Which you really don't want... Grumpy baby first, then epic poonami. I am the voice of experience. Wink

Sounds like he is feeding too quickly - if you gulp down your food you overeat before your stomach realises you are full.

Look up paced bottle feeding - maybe give slightly smaller bottles every 3 hours, feed more slowly, change sides and add in some breaks.
