refusing expressed milk fussy baby

from about 3 weeks o have been expressing and dh giving ds an evening bottle of milk. they have both enjoyed it and I have been thankful of a short break. I even got to go for a meal out last week with a few friends. however since then ds has refused to take a bottle. he might manage 1oz or so with lots of tears but it's becoming stressful for all. ds is normally fussy in the evenings anyway and dh finds it hard that he only ever sees him when he is grumpy which adds to stress
we have been using medela calma teats but have just tried a nuk one instead with nor much more success. I would really love to carry on with a bottle feed but it's stressful for us all at the moment. any advice or experiences?

Is it fresh milk or frozen?
Frozen can taste a bit soapy iirc.

sleepycat13 · 08/12/2017 07:14

it's been both. I normally just use fresh but used frozen last week when I went out and he did take that. since then i have mostly offered fresh with some frozen and both have been refused.
have done everything else the same as we normally do too in terms of temp, dh giving it, evening time etc
I do wonder whether he is just going through a fussy period and that it's that that's making him refuse. evenings are particularly bad. but also the time of day I most need half hour break.

Evening cluster feeding can help bring your supply up to meet his needs. Therefore a bottle may just not be doing it for him.

hi @IfYouDontImagineNothingHappens
your right a bottle wouldn't be enough on its own but i still offer the rest of the cluster feed as boob as well as the bottle. he has always fed alot. cluster feed tends to go from about 4.30pm until about 9.30 ish with the odd 15 min nap on the boob. I started using the bottle to allow me to get myself ready for bed during this time whilst still being able to top him up.

Have you tried the milk yourself?

Thought DS was being fussy but fridge had broken and it was rancid.

Also noticed I have high lipase so had to scald my milk
