Cows milk allergy, when do symptoms stop

Poppies9629 · 02/12/2017 20:29

My DD (11weeks) has been diagnosed with a cows milk protein allergy. This was after blood in poop and green poop.
The diagnosis was 1 week 5 days ago and thankfully nappies are now free of blood, however they are still green... like really green!
Others in the same situation, how long did your child's symptoms take to go? How long should I reasonably wait before going back to the doctor or trying to cut another food group out? DD is breastfed so obviously I have cut dairy from my diet.
Any help gratefully received.

2-3 weeks after full avoidance (if you are breastfeeding that may also include avoiding dairy yourself)

Now, it is difficult to avoid dairy but if she is allergic is sooooo much worth it. DS was like a completely different child once milk was out of his diet for a few weeks.

We were told that green poo was related to fast transit through their digestive system, not the allergy. Having said that, a few weeks after we completely eliminated dairy from my diet (it is a sneaky food that gets into all types of unexpected food and drink), it was a few weeks before she settled into a more normal bowel pattern and colour.

Give some more time for the bowel to heal before stressing about other allergies. How is their skin - that's a good indicator too. DC's hives and blotchy red spots disappeared faster than the nappies resolved.

Things that were gone when we stopped milk:

  • bloated tummy
  • eczema
  • constipation
  • the permanent runny nose
  • passiveness, he started crawling like mad, before he was like a cushion, wherever you left him, he would stay there.

My ds has green poos now at 18m, it's due to the milk. Unfortunate but if all other symptoms have gone then I wouldn't fixate too much on the colour of the poo, unless there's blood or other worrying symptoms.

What milk have you been prescribed? We are on neocate, and even now if he eats nothing but his own milk they will be green.

Thanks all. DD is breastfed so I am cutting all dairy from my diet - your right @APieceOfLatrice - bloody milk in everything, why do sausages need milk!
I'll give it more time and stop worrying about the colour as DD is fine in herself and luckily no other symptoms have come out yet.

The sausages, the ham, and chips. They all can contain milk.
