What & how much does your 7-8 month old eat?

I'm still trying to work out if my DS is getting enough to eat! He's 7.5 months, and big for his age - 10kg and 78cm, easily into 9-12 month clothes.

We started weaning at 5.5 months (purées) and he took to food straight away. Still has a good appetite and almost always finishes whatever we give him, especially if it's dessert Grin But he still often roots for a BF before a nap even though that's not our routine and he can't be hungry (surely), and has 2 night feeds. I do wonder if he wakes because of habit or if he's really hungry.

Typical day:

7am ish Awake & BF (often half-hearted if he had a late night feed)
8am breakfast eg porridge with 2 heaped dessertspoons of oats and full fat milk, or 1/2 weetabix with full fat milk and 1/2 banana
9.30am nap
10.30-11 BF (sometimes keen, sometimes has 5 mins and wants to go play)
12ish lunch eg tuna pasta or chicken & pumpkin with rice (4-5 heaped dessertspoons), then fruit & yoghurt. Almost always eats all his lunch. I'm trying him with finger foods like toast as well but he hasn't any teeth and it (a) takes ages while he kind of sucks at it, and (b) scares me that he'll choke.
1pm ish nap (often very fussy for this one and rooting for boob)
2.30pm BF (guzzles this one normally unless I gave in and fed him before the nap)
5pm Dinner eg ratatouille, egg noodles with cream cheese, courgette & pear with rice (again 4-5 heaped dessertspoons), followed by fruit or yoghurt
6pm BF prior to bedtime routine
7pm bed
10.30pm dreamfeed (usually takes a lot)
4-5am extra feed if he won't settle which is most of the time

Surely that's enough even for a big baby! I do wonder if I should be giving him protein in the evening too (I read somewhere it can disturb digestion so tend to give meat or fish at lunch only). Also any ideas for a more filling dessert than fruit or yoghurt would be welcome!!

Thoughts welcome and I would be fascinated to know what your baby eats at a similar age/size?

I think that sounds plenty and I wouldn't stress about the desserts. He doesn't even need them every day and I definitely wouldn't be trying to offer anything more filling or calorific.

Mine was FF and we were doing blw, so she was still just playing with food and eating small amounts only. We only just added in dinner at 7.5 months. Before this, she had only lunch til close to 7 months and then from 7 months, breakfast and lunch every day. Her day looked something like this:

6-7am: Wake up and bottle (probably about 6-8 oz of formula per feed)
8am: Breakfast, porridge balls and fruit or weetabix with milk and a bit of fruit
10am: bottle
12pm: lunch - savoury muffin or plain pasta, or omelette, or hummus on toast fingers, maybe some cucumber sticks, then usually fruit (few pieces of banana or half a plum)
2-3pm: bottle
5pm dinner - something similar to lunch plus fruit sometimes
7pm: bottle
Then 1-2 bottles during the night

They really don't need to eat loads at this age and mine was really just picking at food until about 10 months when she suddenly started to eat so much. Equally you don't need to restrict foods either (like protein in the evening) if it's what you're eating yourselves. Feeding before naps and waking during the night is still very normal, especially if you're bf as bm is digested quicker than formula. Mine continued night feeds until she was 9 months and then they just dropped on their own (she wouldn't take them if offered). But that doesn't end night waking unfortunately. They wake for all sorts of reasons well into late toddlerhood. Mine didn't STTN consistently until she was 3.5. She's 5 now and still might wake during the night once or twice a month for some random reason.

Thanks @mindutopia - that's reassuring to hear. Can I ask if your DD had teeth at this stage? How was she managing things like the pasta or toast? I'm still a bit nervous of giving pasta shapes in case my son tries to swallow them whole Shock
