Fussing at bottle

My ds (nearly 10wks) has recently started fussing quite badly when he is feeding. He will quite happily take a couple of ounces, then cries/screams, arches his back and generally makes it difficult to try and feed him. We try winding him, sitting him up straighter and different flow rates (slow and medium). This morning it has taken him nearly an hour to take 4oz. He used to take between 5 and 7 oz quite easily.Once he has had his grizzle/thrash he generally settles to more milk. Does anyone else suffer this ? My ds rarely seems to be happy when he finishes his feeds, except when he drops off. After about 5mins or so he becomes happy and it seems not to bother him. He is gaining weight well and seems to be healthy/happy, but this fussing is starting to get me down. Any suggestions ??

Pardon my ignorance, but what is silent reflux?

I'm interested because I have a baby that fusses a lot at feeds too. Some feeds go like a dream and others are a complete nightmare. Used to be a wind problem, but sorted that with Chamomile tea .
Thought we were home free when his teeth started bothering him at 13 weeks !!! Now a week later the teeth issue seems to have receded, but we still have this performance. My last feed consisted of 1 hour of fussing before he finally took the bottle and cleared 7 oz!
I started wondering if the hospital might consider tube feeding him I got so fed up!

Hi Joshuamum..silent reflux is when a baby may suffer with gas/indegestion..i haven't followed it up with my HV yet..seeing her next week..my ds2 is 10 weeks and takes 1 hour to feed 4-6 oz..its really getting me down..he doesn't nap much in between either (30/45min tops!)..we tend to stick to the GF feeding routine..but not the sleep routine..he's just a very light sleeper, but the nights are fine, so shouldn't complain!..

there's a website called living with reflux..do a search on google and that should direct u..read up on the symptoms and c whether ur ds can relate to it..i hope not, and i hope its just a phase that will pass..

when did he begin to fuss?..and how r u giving the chammoile tea?..i tend to give fennel tea..boil a few fennel seeds in water and then put the fennel water into the milk..

Thanks Sandi102 - I have worked out that our recent bout of fussing is teething again - at 15 weeks, can you believe it!!??
Will read up on silent reflux anyway - who knows when these things can rear their heads!
I make a cup of chamomile tea with 1 teabag in 200 mls of boiling water and leave it to steep for 5 mins. I then mix in the tea with the water used for the formula (about 10% strength - for me 20 mls in a 210 ml bottle). I also add a spoon of gripe water. Although my DS can still be a bit sickie, he doesn't hold onto his air and if he does it doesn't seem to trouble him whereas before he used to scream and fuss. This has transformed our evenings - even managed to watch a video the other night! Then the teething started..........!
I believe fennel has a similar effect to chamomile -with fennel being better for general digestion and chamomile better for wind. Not sure what the difference is.

By the way, I'm impressed that you manage any kind of routine with a fussing baby. I have given up on that and my routine at the moment consists of -
Do as much as I can to get the recommended 150 mls per kilo of baby in 24 hrs into my DS as possible
Make sure he has at least 3 x 45 min to 1 hr naps during the day (doesn't sleep much during the day 'cause he can sleep a 10 hour stretch at night)
Go through a night time routine of bath , change etc and put him to bed at about 8.
The rest is completely random!!!
