17m old obsessed with nipping my neck during bf - any ideas?

Okay, this is getting really blooming annoying now.

DD is 17 months and a person who doesnt really sit still or settle to anything for more than 2 seconds. She is very wriggly when breastfeeding.

The last few months, she has become obsessed with nipping my neck while feeding, including pulling at a mole. Other favourite entertainments while she feeds are poking her finger into my nose and mouth or just gently touching the freckle above my lip which tickles and is blooming annoying.

I have tried:

  • giving her something else to play with (she just chucks it away and gets back to nipping)
  • saying 'no nipping please it hurts' (she ignores)
  • saying 'OW - NO NIPPING IT HURTS'
  • taking her off the boob (she cries and then goes back on and starts again)

Any suggestions? I am in process of night-weaning and one of reasons is am sick of being physically mauled during the night.

Hmmphhh count yourself lucky she doesn't nip your other nipple like my ds does .

I've found the only way to stophim is hold his hand (while saying NO)

Sorry that's not much help

Would a breastfeeding necklace be enough to distract her?

I did a makeshift one for my ds as he was scratching me and twiddling and all sorts. It hasn't eliminated it completely, but it has lessened the annoyance factor. One of the little beads has a cat on it and he miaows when he sees it! Quite cute really.

thanks for the links MrsBadger - normally avoid necklaces because she pulls on them and half strangles me - but may be worth a try
