Silent reflux problems

Hi all :)

My 6 week old boy has got silent reflux, it's not that bad but enough to make him pretty unsettled.
We have him on carobel just now, but because we have to shake it to thicken it up I noticed it creates quite a lot of bubbles in it. This has created quite a problem with wind, he wriggles about in such discomfort no matter how much we try burp him. I tried a few days with just stirring his bottles and this really helped his wind, he burped straight away and fell asleep after his feed but about half an hour later I could hear the reflux starting up, he's on ranitidine for the pain so the pain wasn't an issue but he was obviously still bothered by the milk coming back up. So this morning I tried shaking again and bang he's been super unsettled today and really struggling with trapped wind but not so much with the reflux although you can still hear it coming up (which has always happened with the carobel)

Any tips on how to handle this? should I just ditch the carobel considering I can still hear his milk coming up even when he's on it? I'm seeing my HV tomorrow so will ask but just thought someone might have personal experience.

Sorry if none of this makes much sense I'm all over the place today! thanks c

Put in infacol in the milk, it kills the bubbles. Hope baby grows out of it soon.

Hi,
We had really bad issues with silent reflux with our little one (now 7 months old).
She would scream in agony after every feed and it was a nightmare.
After trying lots of options and being administered to hospital she was given gaviscon and ranitidine, which works a treat. We initially had some issues with bowel movements as the gaviscon made going to the loo a bit harder for her. This was sorted with some lactulose (which she doesn't take now).

I know it seems like a lot of things to give all at the same time but I couldn't watch my little girl in pain any longer. Plus I was at end of my tether phoning the doctors all the time!

X

Smaller more frequent feeds if bottle-fed worked for me. Upright position after feeds. Also lying on me on his tummy helps to him. I read in this book it reduces reflux as well and my experience confirmed it. This article is great

@AnaKristina really good article to read re: reflux x

I think so! I saw it as an add on FB. I'm thrilled it mentions how it affects parents and also the fact that not all GPs are trained enough in treating reflux.

The book I recommend is also very good. Gives details you cannot find on the internet and gives you tools you need to advocate for your baby if GP is not very responsive apart fee ROM the self management strategies.
