MAM bottle warmer vs tommee tippee prep machine

Bit of advice please. I'm due in February and currently trying to plan/buy everything. I had planned to use the MAM bottles and was buying a set to include steriliser and breastfeeding pump. I had also planned to buy the tommee tippee prep machine as I was advised by many this would save so much hassle and time when preparing formula. I've now found that MAM do a bottle warmer and I'm struggling to see what the difference is aside from the size and price! any help would be much appreciated!

Hi, not sure if this helps but I use the MAM bottles, they're really easy to clean & sterilse. I also have the tommee tippee prep machine, it's great as like you said it saves time & is really easy...only thing is it starts at 4 ounces so if the baby is only on 3 ounces like mine at the moment it's a bit of a pain but still easier than having to go downstairs & boil kettle etc. Not sure if this helps but I'd recommend the prep machine & definitely the MAM bottles.

Also, the tommee tippee is always on offer somewhere. Think i paid £60 x

MAM bottle is the only my baby took as the teat is flat and it's a narrow neck. I don't understand the fashion with breast like teats which are huge for the newborn mouth. Mam sterilizer and bottle warmer are very expensive. Combination of other two brands may be as good and cheaper. Mam bottles need a large sterilizer as they have so many parts. So Tommy tipee sterilizer that fits 5 bottles fits only three mam bottles. Four if you push it. I'm thinking of getting a second sterilizer due to that reason. Ready made formulas are more expensive but good if you struggle with tiredness.

Thank you for your replies! I've found the MAM bottles with steriliser and manual breast pump for £44. I'm going to the baby show in Manchester where they offer the same items but with a bottle warmer for £90. The tommee tippee warmer is £60. I'm not sure if the bottle warmer will be as suitable as the prep machine.

Hi again. Could you please share where did you find it at that price?

AnaKristina · 30/08/2017 18:21

You must refer to the microwave sterilizer. The electric one is more expensive. Timer tipee warmer is 22 pounds. Prep machine more expensive

AnaKristina · 30/08/2017 18:24

Also make sure microwave sterilizer fits your microwave

welshweasel · 30/08/2017 18:25

Buy the mam anti colic bottles. They are fab and you don't need a steriliser, you can put them straight in the microwave to sterilise them instead.

The perfect prep is hands down the best baby item we bought.

welshweasel · 30/08/2017 18:27

Although if you're looking at pumps I assume you're hoping to breastfeed therefore not sure what the point of the perfect prep would be.

welshweasel · 30/08/2017 18:27

ana the tommee tippee electric steriliser fits 6 mam bottles in.

The warmer and perfect prep machine do completely different things. The warmer will just warm up bottles that are already made, to a correct temp for baby to drink. So for example if you had defrosted breastmilk and it was too cold it would warm it up for baby to drink. Or if you had readymade formula in the fridge and wanted it warmed up.

The prep machine actually makes bottles of formula fresh within about 3 minutes so they are at a temperature suitable for the baby to drink straight away. So with formula powder it needs to go into water at least 70C to kill any bacteria in it. The prep machine puts in a shot of hot water to sterilise the powder and then fills the bottle with cold filtered water so it is at the correct temperature to drink. To make formula bottles the traditional way you would fill it with water from the kettle, then add powder and wait for it to cool - not quick or fun with a screaming baby.

My baby is breast and formula fed, I use the mam bottles with the tommee tippie sterliser and the perfect prep machine.

orangeowls · 30/08/2017 18:43

Ps. I have never needed a warmer. If frozen breastmilk has been a bit cold I've just run it under the hot tap for a few mins

AnaKristina · 30/08/2017 18:45

I have a new model made for 5 tommee tipee bottles The old model is for 6 bottles and is larger. I disassemble mam bottles completely.

user1494844397 · 30/08/2017 19:51

Thank you! That makes sense, I'm planning on doing the same, combination of breast feeding and formula.

There's a warning that the perfect prep doesn't dispense enough volume of hot water to sterilise the formula powder (which is the reason formula needs to be made with boiling water). You might want to read up about that and make your own decision about the risk that poses

bf1000 · 30/08/2017 23:48

Just to say lots of people do combi feed but you may not feel the need to as it is advised not to introduce formula for a few weeks. As your supply will respond best to just breastfeeding. Formula can cause them to go longer between feeds as it bungs them up as it is harder to digest. So this impacts on supply as the body doesn't get the right signals often rough for a good supply to be established. Night time feeds are really important for supply.

I would recommend not starting combi feed till at least 6 weeks when breast feeding is more established. The longer you exclusively breastfeed for the easier it is and making up bottles is in my opinion much harder than putting baby to breast. So maybe wait and see before purchasing perfect prep and lots of bottles etc.

I purchased loads of stuff like this and I never used hardly any of it. I expressed a lot with first and she took odd bottles but we never used more than 2 of the bottles from the pack we got. My second hasn't taken to bottle at all so I don't bother expressing now and to be honest life is easier just breastfeeding.
