I just want my milk supply back

Hi,
I breastfed my baby until he was a week old and then my supply literally just stopped. I only realised when I couldn't understand how my son had lost 8 oz (he was 9 lb 3 born) when he was feeding literally constantly, at least every hour for an hour. So I expressed and literally not even half an ounce came out. The day after he was born I expressed 4 oz. I only stopped expressing because it was much easier just to put my son to be boob.

I tried everything to get it back but it never did so I had to put him on formula. I believe that fed is best so I didn't think it would really bother my how my son is fed. It really got to me at first but then I forgot about it.
He's now 17 weeks and lately it's really got me down that I'm not breast feeding him. I'm trying to express but not getting anything. I'm on fenugreek and I have noticed that I get a few dots out but again, not even enough to get into the bottle. I stopped the fenugreek for a day or so because I was just so unmotivated to express because I thought what's the point if it's not working. I noticed I can't get the drops out anymore so I do think that the fenugreek is upping my supply but I don't understand why it's not coming back fully when I was told it would.

It's really starting to get to me because I just want to breastfeed my baby, I know he's 4 months old and it's probably too late now but is there anything else I can do?? Any advice is so very much appreciated. Thank you x

Doctor might be able to prescribe domperidone to increase supply but not sure if it will work if supply is v v low. Also, amount of milk expressed isn't indicative of supply. X

Seek out expert advice- la leche league springs to mind. Expressing is never as efficient as having a baby on your nipple-just because little comes out when you express, doesn't mean your baby couldn't get out more. Maybe just keep putting baby on you to see what happens. Good luck

why are you expressing? putting your baby to the breast would have been/will be far more effective at producing milk.

It's worth seeing an IBCLC so they can go through you history and work out what's happened and where you could go from here.

In the mean time putting your baby to the breast for a little time is worthwhile

Op, google relactation on here and on google.

You will need a proper plan. It will almost certainly include expressing, ad lib breastfeeding, nursing supplementer tool (google that, too 😀) and a lot of motivation and time. Oh and patience.

But you do need a plan. Hope it works out for you.
