Can't I wean too quickly??

I don't mean different types of food (I know when to introduce meat and dairy etc..) but in terms of the amount?

DS has severe reflux and basically vomits everywhere all the time. I've started introdicing solids over the past couple of weeks and am already on two good portions (or three small ones) per day. He bloody loves it! However, he seems to be bringing even more back up now mostly after his milk so thinking of reducing the oz per feed very slightly and giving more solids. This makes sense right? I know most sources say don't cut back on milk til a bit later on but also want to follow my babies lead. Just want to make sure I can't over-feed him solids too early?!
Thanks

I think you can.
The digestive system is immature until 6 months- I believe current Nhs advice is only to wean before this under guidance of professionals.

Yes I was advised by doctor and hv.

Food before one is just for fun - keep this phrase in mind, milk whether breast or formula should be the main source of nutrition until one years old, and weaning shouldn't start until 6 months unless advised otherwise by a doctor.

I would just stick to doing tasting type portions of food at this stage, introducing solids is a huge change for a baby's gut, so rather than giving several 'meals' at this stage maybe just give some carrot purée one day, broccoli the next, banana the next one at a time to let his gut get used to digesting solids before you go the whole hog with several scheduled meals.

Dd had some issues with constipation when we first weaned her and we left it until 6 months, once I dialled back the amount of food I was giving her the problem was solved, she was filling up on proper food and not having enough milk. They are so enthusiastic with food at first as it is new and exciting but you need to pace it as they can't do it themselves, dd would eat and eat until she vomited if I let her.

If the doctor and health visitor are advising you to wean to specific timetable to suit the medical needs of your baby, I would follow their advice.

DS was weaned at 5 months and took to it very quickly. Was on 3 meals within a couple of weeks. Milk feeds reduced at the same time.

Thanks all. They advised I weaned early but to no specific timetable or pace. Just seems he is loving food and still barfing up all his milk so the logical thing to me seems to be increase food reduce milk, but wanted to check first.

And thanks welshweasel, that's interesting.
