Dribbling milk since birth. Now 6 weeks old.1
Today 21:11 AnaKristina

My 6 weeks old is dribbling milk and it's getting worse. Has been diagnosed with reflux. Cries when feeding, frustrated something doesn't work for him or in pain difficult to know. First accepted Lansinoh bottle slow flow but suddenly started crying and dribbling more milk a week ago associating hoarse cry. Put on ranitidine as reflux may be giving him pain. No improvement after a week. Thinking of other diagnosis related to dribbling milk like posterior tong tie, milk allergy. GP useless saying he doesn't have any of it without even considering it. Found HV more understanding. Any experience with similar situation or any thoughts? I have tried numerous bottles. Now tommee tipee as at least takes it with tons of dribbling though. NUK gets blocked by his sucking. Dr Brown's chokes. Avent not accepted.

Yes! Ds was like this. For months. We went down all avenues. He didn't have tongue tie, but we did see a speech and language therapist who couldn't diagnose any specific problem. There is no physical issue with his mouth. He did have reflux but not severe enough to make him spit out in pain it was more being sick after for him.

We tried different bottles, we tried feeding laid right back and sat right up. We went through bibs and muslins like there was no tomorrow and I'm sorry to say we never ever found out why he did it.

He continued to gain weight and because of that medical professionals were unconcerned. He did eventually grow out of it and he doesn't have any problems with drinking or eating now (he's 16 months)

I really don't know what to suggest. We were so worried but there didn't seem to be a solution for us except to wait for him to grow out of it and obviously get him weighed regularly to ensure he was gaining weight.

I hope you have an easier ride than we did. I feel your pain honestly and for us it was crap too because midwives doctors and hv all said they'd never seen anything like it! Bizarre!

Thanks so much HelloSquirrels. I am as you can understand concerned and also being ignored by the health professionals doesn't help. Who assessed your baby for the tongue tie? Was it speech and language therapist? Or tong tie practitioner? Or someone else?

At first midwives assessed him and so did hv, doctor also had a look. Then was reffered to speech and language by the hv.
You could ask your hv about seeing one. We had a few weeks wait but it was worth ruling it out.

Usually it is spotted pretty early on but we were told it sometimes gets missed If it's a less obvious one. Speech and language therapist also looked at his mouth to make sure it was physically as it should be with no obstructions etc.

She watched him feed as well, to make sure he was able to swallow correctly which he was.

It still remains a mystery whichbis frustrating because I so wish I could give you an answer as I know how bloody awful it is!

Thanks so much. Will do this week. HV took seriously my concerns. But was waiting for the ranitidine response. I read palate issues can cause it as well. So worth of double checking. Tong tie practitioner is a private one in my area and would require travelling 3 h by car. Not too keen. I'm glad your baby is much better and no issues at all with his mouth.

Yes definitely. Ask for a referral. Speech and language therapists are trained to spot tongue tie so no point travelling that far if you can avoid it!

Thank you so am i! I hope you find a solution! X
