Agonising latch now he's got teeth...

Two top, two bottom teeth, and he keeps sort of pulling away/pushing my boob and scraping the teeth along the nipple. It's bloody agony. It's while he's actively feeding. I keep unlatching and starting again but he only wants to feed like that - perhaps he wants the shallower latch.

Do I need to start all over again with his latch now he's got teeth? Any tips for feeding older babies?

He had a tongue tie that was snipped at 1 week and I think has always had a fairly shallow latch but no issues until now. I'll go to a breastfeeding cafe this week to get his latch checked but it feels a bit ludicrous asking for help with an enormous 9 month old (who has just demolished a roast dinner roughly the size of his head).

I stopped mine biting me by saying "oww!" loudly, taking him off and plonking him on the floor every time he did it. It only took a few goes for him to get the message! If your baby is starting off okay and then does the scraping after a bit of a delay, that might work? I did have to actually remove him from my lap though - when I was only pulling away he used to do it deliberately and then laugh at my reaction before latching back on.

I also found my baby started pulling away a bit and trying to feed without a proper latch when he got distracted by wanting to look around. I discouraged that in the same way and by positioning myself when we were out and about so there was nothing interesting for him to look at! Sometimes it helped to gently hold the back of his head and smoosh myself against him so he couldn't pull away easily, too. :)

Oh, just to add - obviously you need to make sure his nose is clear and that you're not suffocating him with the smooshing! :D

Cheers - have had some success with taking him off if he starts messing around. Hes been plonked on the floor for any outright biting. He definitely needs a boring quiet location for feeds!
