Can anyone recommend an electric breast pump which is easy to use?

Medela swing is good.

mumofone234 · 18/08/2017 21:08

Ditto the Medela swing!

Calypso double breast pump. Wins loads of awards and is a closed system so no chance of milk leaking and going mouldy.

I had a Medela first time round and it was fine but it was pretty mouldy after a while as milk leaks down the tubing into the machine and can't be cleaned.

Thanks, looking into both!

Philips Avent is a closed system too. I found cleaning it very easy - all the parts apart from the electric part can go in the dishwasher.

Medela Freestyle if you're going to be pumping regularly. As a working mother I couldn't have managed with anything less powerful than this.

I've got the lansinoh double and it's great. I hated the medela.

I used the medela swing and it was great, plus I found out easy to keep clean with the steriliser. It often showed up cheap on Amazon (about £50 off normal price) so if you can afford to wait it's worth watching for a bargain!

Medela swing!

The tommee tippee one is shite.

CockneyRhymer · 19/08/2017 08:04

Ameda lactaline- also double and closed and lots of control over speed and suction. I hated the medela too!

KimchiLaLa · 19/08/2017 12:42

Hmm lots of votes for the Medela! I will look into whether others have commented on the cleaning. I'm pregnant so don't know if I'll be pumping a lot yet but plan is to go back to work at 6 months.

I loved my lansinoh double pump.

I've used four different ones (long story as to why; I actually only bought one of them!): Medela Swing, Medela Symphony, Tommee Tippee, Philips Avent

The Medela Swing is my favourite for comfort, simplicity to use and easy to clean, and efficiency. I like that I just have to wash the breast shield part and the bottle, unlike the Tommee Tippee which has a million different components. I'm still using the Tommee Tippee just because its convenient having two pumps available but if I was advising someone to buy one pump it would be the Medela Swing.

The Philips pump wasn't that easy to use (having to hand pump to set the speed/force) but I don't know if the newer model might have improved on this.

Another plus for the Medela is that the pump components fit the Sterifeed reusable bottles which are cheap to buy, have reliable screw-on lids and are the perfect size for storing a feeds worth of milk.

I also can recommend the Medela Swing.

If you will be pumping a lot then the Medela Swing Maxi is a good investment as this is a double pump (this was a lifesaver for me as I ended up exclusively pumping for 4 months).

I've been using spectra S1 and I love it. My twins couldnt latch on at birth and still cant at 5 months old. Long story but I decided to exclusively express and give the milk in a bottle. Although everyone including HV and lactation consultant said it couldn't be done, I believe the pump helped a lot, its portable, silent and has a night light. I bought it from Amazon.
