Expressing breastmilk/worried about my supply

Hi everyone,

I'm really new to mumsnet and also a new mum to my 3 week old baby. I had a haemorrhage after the birth which meant I found breast feeding really difficult but we persevered and are currently exclusively bf. When my baby was 10 days I got mastitis and was admitted to hospital for 5 days and treated for sepsis. I feel that I desperately want to continue bf as I've worked hard to keep at it despite the above! Anyway... ill get to the point! I have a wedding that I will be attending all day and my husband will be feeding our boy my expressed milk between around 12pm and 9pm. I will probably have had a few glasses of wine so won't be able to feed until the following morning... I'm worried that not feeding/ Expressing for most of the day will cause my milk to dry up. Does anyone have any advice/experience?

You don't need to stop breastfeeding because of a couple of glasses of wine, just feed baby as normal when you get home. You may want to manually express for comfort during the wedding as it's more likely that you will become uncomfortably engaged going 9hours without feeding.

I doubt you will be able to go that long without feeding or expressing without your boobs exploding! I'd plan on taking a pump to the wedding.

Just take a pump to the wedding and chuck away the breast milk that you pump while you're there so you don't have to worry about it being sterile or alcoholic! That way you'll maintain your supply and don't have to feel engorged all day.

You don't need to wait until the next day to feed after a couple of glasses of wine!

It absolutely won't cause your milk to dry up (I've breastfed all 3 of mine and last weekend left my 6 month old for a similar amount of time to go to a wedding). On Saturday I expressed milk twice - about 12 noon and about 6pm having fed DS at 10am before I left. I just hand expressed into the sink for comfort.
