My dd is 6 months and all the books/magazines are on about follow on milk. She is on sma gold now.

Just wondered which milk to choose.

Any advice welcome

Ty

If she is happy on SMA Gold there is absolutely no need to change to follow-on milk. The only reason books/magazines go on about follow-on milk is because it is the only milk formula companies are allowed to advertised because it is not classed a breastmilk substitute.

I would honestly not bother. The advice from the dieticians in my hospital do not advise using foolow-on milk. Breast or formula should be continued till 1 year when cow's milk can be used as a drink.

Not necessary. Wouldn't bother to change unless you are going to find it cheaper or more convenient. There is little evidence that they are anything other than a marketing tool and you can continue to use first milks until 12 months then cows milk. Manufacturers are legally able to advertise follow-ons but not first milks so use it to get their brand name established - hence the books and magazines.

Sorry if that sounds a bit cynical !

Yorkie Girl - I can see that would be tempting! My 14 week ds is on SMA Gold and it's costing us a small fortune as he's a hungry little b@@@er!! BBensley, how has weaning gone/going as i'm starting to read up on it if you don't mind me asking....

No, I've never heard of that, I will investigate, thanks

Well I waited till 22 weeks to wean her and at first it just made her heave. She didn't like the feel of it on her lips let alone in her mouth. Stopped for a few days then started again using my finger instead of a spoon and a jar of organic stuff so she could get used to the texture. This worked so I went back to baby rice and she has been fine since. I am using the Gina Ford weaning book as a guide and so far after just over 3 and half weeks the only thing she has blown out is swede. What started out as very small quantities has increased every day. She is happy and so am I

Having said that the beautiful cream wool carpet that I bought 3 weeks before I found out I was pregnant will never be the same

Thanks! have you noticed any difference in her sleeping patterns?

bbensley · 15/07/2004 22:13

She has always been a good sleeper waking up for just one feed at about 10-11pm ish

Last night tho she didnt want it so hopefully she will now go right thro from 7 till 7.

She hasn't been needing an afternoon sleep for the past couple of days either, not sure what thats all about but she seems happy so I'll just go with the flow.
