8 weeks ds was doing fine feeding 30-35 oz per day, until tue..he had his first jab and since only taking between 20 and 25 oz..i'm really struggling feeding him..after taking 2-3oz he's very jerky and screams and won't take the teat..

today he woke at 2am, took 4oz..now woke at 7am and has only taken 2oz..i thought he'd b starving but is now happliy playing..he used to b such a hungry baby and screamed the place down until he's had at lease 6oz..where has his hunger gone? How can he be satisfied with 2-4oz, when he was previously taking a lot more? Please help..

I'm no expert and I'm sure someone more knowledgable will be along soon to tell you more, but my dd has been similar this week. She had a slight stomach upset last Sunday and only just regained her usual appetite today. Over the last few days she's taken less than half her usual amount of milk but she's been happier and more energetic than ever. I actually got to the point of wondering if I'd been giving her too much milk before, as she seemed so much happier on less. I took her to two doctors, worried that she was getting dehydrated, but they both more or less patted me on the head and implied that I was being neurotic. Maybe the jab just upset his stomach a bit and he's not feeling hungry.

i was thinking the same that i'd fed him too much b4..but he sounds a bit flemy and is coughing whilst feeding..he's still happy though, smiling and babbling away, which is reassuring..

has ur dd regained milk intake to b4 the loss in appetite?

I've replied on other phlegm thread. imho Worth getting the chest checked in case it is an underlying problem such as bronchiolitis. Is he crying properly ?

Sandi102 · 15/07/2004 01:03

hmmm the crying is i would say normal..BUT..

LIZS feed times were fine, ds was content after each feed, but since tuesday once he's taken half his normal feed, and brought up wind, i put him back to the bottle and he cries and screams refusing the bottle..he's never done that b4..he would've just smiled and used his tounge to push the teat out as if to say "no more"

it's as if he's in pain or discomfort after half his feed..

I had something along similar lines but not quite the same when my ds was 5 months old and I started back at work. He caught gastero-enteritis the first week at nursery which lasted for 3 weeks. We were so worried that he wasn't taking enough milk that I kept going back to the nurse every few days. She said that as long as he was drinking a small amount every few hours then he shouldn't be dehydrated and should stop vomiting. He also had a lot of phlegm which didn't help the vomiting and stomach upset.
