Breastfeeding after breast surgery

Wasn't sure what topic to post under so
I've posted on a couple of places, ( to get the most advice and opinions)

I wanted to ask if anyone that had breast surgery were you able to breastfeed? If you were did you require any extra assistant? Could you only express?

I'm hoping to breastfeed. I've had surgery though and both nipples were removed and moved. (I was told at the time they didn't know if I could Breastfeed in the future )

I'm having a planned c section and a general anaesthetic. I do have an inverted nipple one side and I do take a lot of medication (from
Advice I've been told it would help baby wean off my meds if I breastfeed)

My friend breastfed fine after a breast reduction with nipple removal.

I would say you would struggle to breast feed your baby as the nipples are the end of the milk supply ducts so if they have been moved it's highly unlikely they will be in the same place as the milk ducts so therefore unable to feed a baby. However you might find that you still can, so I say give it try but be mindful you may not be able to

I had a breast reduction, and managed to breastfeed both DCs. There wasn't much info about it from midwives when I asked, so it was a nice surprise when it worked!

I have implants (over the muscle) and had no issues with supply or feeding. My incisions are under the boob rather than round the nipple.

The short answer is it depends!

Some women have surgery, complete nipple removal, and feed no problem. Others will struggle to get supply going.
It's because it's all dependent on whether during healing from surgery the ducts heal clear and open or not.

It's certainly worth a shot, just keep a close eye on the nappies to ensure babe is getting milk in the early days.

Good luck!

Oh, and expressing would have the same issues, so neither a help or hinderance.

If it's implants, some women find that because their breasts are firmer, they have to concentrate a bit more on learning to latch though.
