Sleepy newborn - how often should I wake to feed?

I'm after some help
My 2nd baby arrived on Thurs, 9lb 8 1/2oz and is very sleepy
How often should I be waking her to breastfeed?

I have no clue how often I fed my first as he wasn't so sleepy
Kellymom says 2 hrs in the day and 4 hrs in the night. I am going to mess up if I only feed 3 hrly in the day?
Does the starting weight make a difference?

The Blonde - when Samuel was newly born i was astounded that he seemed to have practically no waking moments at all! He fed 4 hourly and sometimes went longer than that...

It has got more frequent now as he has more wakeful periods but he still seems to sleep most of the time - purely waking for food.

As long as baby is not losing vast amounts of weight i wouldn't worry - when does your mw next come? Get her to come earlier if you're worried and she can weigh her to check for you.

If you are feeding 3 hrly in the day - i would say that's great!

Thanks Muppet, MW hasn't been yet and isn't due til Weds
I did speak to her on the phone and she seemed to think 6-8 feeds per 24 hrs was fine

My DD was sleepy as well and used to wake anywhere from 3-5 hours between feeds, fed lots when she was awake, not an expert, but I don' think any reason to panic.

TheBlonde - your baby will almost certainly start to wake more to feed more. Keep her skin to skin so she is stimulated to feed. Watch for poos changing to soft yellow day 4-5 - that's a great sign all is well.

The Blonde - ditto - I have a sleepy DS, 4 weeks old, 9lb born. 3 hrly in the day sounds about right. I used to wake my DS to feed (still do) as I find with him it helps him go for longer in the night if he has been fed regularly during the day. Also feeding regularly helps with establishing your milk supply for when he ups his feeds later on
