Hi everyone just wondered what you think about Palm Oil being in baby food. Been looking at formulas recently to combination feed my daughter and its everywhere. Is it healthy?

Palm oil is in most things?

It's not unhealthy as such, there are very strict rules as to what can go in baby formula. However, it is horrendous on the environment which is why people do try to avoid it as much as possible. But it is in a lot of things, so can be quite difficult.

Hmm yes maybe but doesn't make it healthy!

Yes I agree it is really bad for the environment and actually not a great source of fat for babies to digest, as is no vegetable fat. Milk fat would be much better, like our milk. We are whole milk so surely it would be better to use whole milk fats in formula rather than skimmed milk then add all the fat back in but with vege oils etc. Just starting to look at combination feeding my daughter so really looking into it!

Oh wow! How strange you should ask because there's a new brand... what's it called again... Mendakill or something? They don't use palm oil... I can't remember but I'm sure if I check one of the many posts their marketing department has been putting on this board I'll be able to work it out...

Hmm

OP if you want delicious wholesome milk fat then avoid the "whole milk" brands as the amount of actual dairy fat in these is misleading.

There are other well known brands out there that have a formula with added anydrous milk fat, and is proportionally much higher in milk fat than Kendamil. I will double check for you OP but I believe that particular formula also has no palm oil.

As a side note OP, Kendamil seem to be using dodgy marketing stealth posts on popular parenting forums like mumsnet, I viewed them in a positive light when I first saw their formula but now they are seeming a bit unsavoury - it's very off putting indeed. What do you think?
