Best highchairs

Will be starting the weaning process soon - is a high chair necessary straight away?

I went to Mothercare and there are about forty different ones to choose from!

Would you recommend one in particular -

just want something safe and easy to store away - baby isn't sitting on her own yet so will only use this when she is.

thanks in advance

IKEA antilop - all day, every day. It's cheap and easy to clean.

Lovelilies · 18/06/2017 13:46

Same. Ikea antilop. Love lovelove it. On my 3rd DC and really wish I'd got one to begin with!
So simple, easy to clean, you can get a blow up insert if they're a bit wobbly sitting up.
I've put fablon on my tray to jazz it up a bit Grin

Yep the Ikea antilop is fab. Easy to clean and cheap as chips. Does have a big footprint but the legs come off easy enough for storage

Misspilly88 · 18/06/2017 13:47

I didn't get an antilop and wish I did. You won't be storing it away once they start weaning and you'll be so thankful for the ease of cleaning.

IKEA Antilop.

NannyR · 18/06/2017 13:48

The antilop is the best one, really cheap, no nooks and crannies for food to accumulate so it's really easy to clean (you can even put it in the dishwasher).
It doesn't fold, but only takes up a bit more space than a dining chair. You can take the legs off though.

MrsHathaway · 18/06/2017 13:55

Another vote for Ikea Antilop.

You would think that a folding one would be good if space is at a premium, but they have too many gaps for crud to accumulate. Mould and grot is hideous.

Bumbo plus tray might be a useful first step though as also easily cleaned and more suitable for a non-sitting small.

I bought a semi-pricey Cosatto to begin with. It now lives in the cupboard and the Ikea Antilop lives at the table.

Hauck wooden one is easy to clean and cheap when on offer in Aldi. Choose one that is small enough to keep out (you won't want to keep putting it away) and doesn't have lots of creases to clean out. You may need a multiway harness too.

welshweasel · 18/06/2017 14:02

Another vote for the antilop. DS was fine in it with cushion from 4 months (he used to like sitting at the table with us). We take it away with us for weekends etc, it's very portable. Everyone I know who didn't get one initially, went and bought one subsequently!

RoseVase2010 · 18/06/2017 14:11

Stokke Trip Trapp.

The seat of the IKEA one is good but the legs stick out a mile and we were forever falling over them, even in a large dining room. Fell over it once and trapped DS's finger between chair and table.

user1465146157 · 18/06/2017 14:12

Wow thank you everyone for the unanimous vote for the Ikea Antilop - i saw it and as its so cheap I wondered if it was good enough compared to all the pricey ones in other places.

But will take your recommendations and go with that!

Thanks again!

Yes

Ikea Antilop, I also used this in preference to megabucks M&P one with the hydraulic lift (which broke).

Cineraria · 18/06/2017 14:18

Try to get the inflatable cushion insert with the red and blue stripy cover for your Antilop too, especially if your baby isn't confident at sitting yet. We got two: one for the Antilop seat and one for when we're out. It worked well as extra support for the type of highchair you get in cafes and restaurants (square wooden ones with no back support) and really helped make sure DS sat up close to the table and didn't bang his head in the early days. We even used it in supermarket trolleys when he first started riding in the child seat.

BikeRunSki, Cineraria - thank you
