VERY stupid question about breastpumps!

I'm thinking about buying an Ameda Lactaline to replace my Avent Isis manual pump which gives me wrist ache. The only things I'm not sure about are:

Can you use the Ameda on one side only or do you always have to use both at the same time? (Told you it was stupid )

Is it worth £85 if I'm only going to use it at most once or twice a day so dh/babysitters can do the odd feed?

Will it be a lot more effective than the Avent, with which I can get about 5 oz from both breasts if ds2 has had EBM instead of a feed, so there's been 3-4 hours since his previous feed.

Would you consider buying my Medela double electric? Not much used, you can use it on one boob at a time if you want.

Can you not look up the make of it and find a customer services' number to call?

MuminBrum, which Medela is it? I've been looking through the archives at people's comments on the Ameda v. the Medela and it seems that the Medelas are really noisy. DH detests the squeaking of the Avent and he'd really hate something even noisier!!

In answer to your question yes you can. You just disconnect one of the pipes and put the stopper in. I definitely think this pump is well worth the money. Have been using it at work to express for baby who is now 10mth old. Quick and easy.

Not sure which it is, will check tonight and let you know.

Cheers MuminBrum!

Thanks inanidealworld, I've looked at loads of sites selling it and none seem to say whether you can use it as a single too!

It's this one . It does make a bit of a racket, as far as I remember, but perhaps your DH could take himself elsewhere while you pump?!

Hi Olihan. I really recommend the Ameda Lactaline. (used it with all 3 of my babes, and for milk donation). I'm impressed that you got so much milk with the Avent manual - I never got anything with that (and I MEAN anything), but found the Ameda easy, and in the early days I could fill the bottles quite quickly. I would sometimes pump on one side and feed on the other, as my babes mostly only wanted one side at a feed. It is a bit noisy I suppose, but no more than a washing machine which some babes find quite soothing. Good luck!
