I had to change his milk as he was really sick and really unsettled. He is a much more happier baby on this new milk, more settled. He is just as sick though and since chaning his formula his nappies has changed colour to green and the consistency is runny.
Spoke to hv about it she said that green stools can mean a number of things,i am a little worried and dont want to change his milk again.
He is now 11 weeks old,any advice?

When did you change his milk happymummy? Does he need a day or two to settle into the change?

mummytosteven · 10/07/2004 12:28

what formula did you change it too? are his stools more frequent than usual? did your HV say go to the docs if it carried on?

tiktok · 10/07/2004 12:48

Some formulas do make the poo green, because of the fat used to replace the fat taken out of the cows milk that forms the basis of the formula.

Shouldn't be runny, though....and coupled with a baby who is being sick, this sounds like a baby who needs to have a quick check from the doc.

Just done a little bit of web surfing, and it appears that formula with a high iron content (available for younger babies in the US, but not the UK) may also produce green stools.

Agree with tictoc that a trip to the DRs would be a good idea. The sickiness could be reflux so might be worth mentioning this to the DR whilst you're there.

I'm new to this site so pls bear with me. I too changed formula from SMA to Aptamil first. Tranistion was fine, but after 10 days baby started doing 4-5 poos a day. The strange thing is he does it in the middle of the feed everytime. Which means half way through feeding I'm having to change him and because the stools are pretty loose its all going up his back, so having to change clothes too! I changed to aptamil so that wouldn't be constipated. Its done the trick, but should I b worried abt the frequency of poos? No vomiting, no fever, generally happy baby.

Thankyou to everyone,i actually gave the health visitor another call she said it is just because of the different milk, however he has been on this milk now for about 6wks.
The milk is thicker and has got different ingredients compared to the other milk so it is obvious that his stools would change i just thought that by now they might of thickened a bit more.
I think the best thing to do is to keep him on this milk until he has solids.
Sandi102, i think it is just because of the change of milk but just run it past the hv. They arent very helpful sometimes though!
I guess if it was a real problem then he would cry when he went but he doesnt and he is so much more settled on this milk.

happymummy, I told my hv and GP and they said as long as he is putting on weight (which he is) then he's fine and shudn't worry unless he has a fever, seems lethargic etc.
