Looking for some ideas.
Background: DS1 successfully breast fed for 1 year- no complications. He had a tongue tie spotted at hospital, referred to have it snipped. No issues even prior to the snip with feeding or pain etc. Never needed burping never was sick.

DS2: is now 5 weeks old. He's breast fed and is doing well putting on weight having regular nappies. however he is very windy I always have to burp him, he often pushes away and gets stressed and flaps his arms about sometimes cries. He is frequently sick not loads but a fair amount. I put it down to his tongue tie affecting the latch and him taking in additional air during feeds he had it snipped on Thursday and he is still windy.

Any suggestions? I'm suprised at how different they are.

also during his tt procedure the doctor said his tongue looked quite white which is likely to be thrush. I am due to see my gp for the check up soon so was going to hold on unless I should go sooner.

Have you tried gripe water or infacol to help? Both these help my little girl Smile

The doctor remarked about thrush so casually, it didn't seem to be of any concern to him so I didn't think anything of it. Will research it more. I haven't tried gripe water. Thanks for the responses. I don't know too much about reflux. I was always under the impression breast fed babies rarely needed winding which is why I am suprised.

DD2 (also exclusively bf, like DD1 was) suffered from terrible wind, screamed a lot with it. We just used infacol and rode it out (despite everyone I know - apart from the gp - telling me to cut dairy/gluten/whatever). She's now 15 weeks and has been absolutely fine for weeks now (can't remember exactly when she improved, sorry). Go with your gut instinct and proper medical advice. IMO, fwiw, babies have immature digestive systems which just need to grow a bit at the start. Good luck.

When I suspected thrush for DS as he had a white tongue. GP said they didn't know (helpful!) and to go back if I started getting symptoms on my nipple. They would then treat both. They said if DS had the same symptoms and was ff they wouldn't treat. For us it wasn't thrush. It was milk build up. I used a cotton bud and dipped in cooled boiled water and gently wiped his tongue a couple of times a day until it went (didn't take long) - if it was thrush hv said it wouldn't have disappeared like this.

My DS was also a windy ebf baby- everyone said he shouldn't be (but he was!). Didn't use gripe water or infacol, just winded him. Tummy time helped bring some up too.

Hope that's useful to you.
